Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on memoirs written about dealing with chronic illness. I'm trying to learn about ways other people cope with SjS and other autoimmune diseases and am looking for good books as well. Any suggestions?

Joe S.

I have not read anything that I liked. I believe that we are at war with autoimmune diseases. I even remember reading a 1963 article in Mechanix Illustrated about AI diseases being developed as a bio-weapon by a Japanese researcher during WWII.

We have to take our blinders off and see beyond or doctors solutions. 1999 Popular Science article "The Cell from heck" is an interesting start.

The 2010 article from Discover Magazine suggest a link to Mitochondria DNA and L-Bacteria in AI diseases:

These were recommended to me as I am a reader and friends are on the lookout for informational books. I haven't read them so I don't know if they would be a help to you or not.

(I'm not sure about some of the spelling)

The Autoimmune Epidemic     by Donna Jackson
A Body Out of Balance: Understanding and Treating Sjo Syndrome         by Ruth Fremes and Nancy Carteron
The New Sjo Syndrome Handbook          by Steven Carsons and Elaine K Harris

Dancing the Rivers Edge   (don't have an author) I think this is a memoir.
