does anyone suffer from these?  Ive always been prone to them, particularly when my stomach is playing up or i am having a flare, but ive got one at the moment and it is agony.  Its making it diffult to eat and talk as it rests on one of my teeth and the pain is unbelievable.  I have a very dry mouth (like us all) do have alot of problems associated with this and i guess the lack of saliva causes this problem?

Im using mouth ulcer cream and it makes it bearable but there must be something else i can do???

help please???

Hi babycakes,  I also have had these all my life and the last few years, never went a day without at least 3 or more of those.  I went on line and read that taking folic acid helps with this, so I tried it.  It is cheap and a tiny pill and guess what??  At least for me it has helped.  I still get them but now not so many and actually have days when I have none!  Worth a try, but it won't help the one you have right now.  But right now the top, front of my tonge is very sore and the inside of my bottom lip.....ouch!  I am using Biotene gel on the tounge and blistex ointment on my lip, but they both give very temporary relief.  My lip even has 2 small pimple like bumps.  I am asuming they are salavary glands.  Don't even know who I would go to about that.  My PCP?

There is a product I've used called "Canker Cover" and it really does help granted you can tolerate annoyance more than pain. They are little tabs (you can break them in half if the canker sore is in an awkward place or small) and you stick it on the sore and hold for 30 or so seconds. It just sticks, and over the course of the next hour, it turns into a little gel pad protecting the sore from anything that would touch or irritate it. What I don't like about it is that it is mint flavored so it interferes with the taste of anything you eat or drink while it is there. Secondly, the gel pad does get rather large and gets goopy around my teeth when it starts dissolving which I don't like. Fair warning, if you try to remove it too soon, you will take some of the tissue from your gum or lip with it. Let it dissolve on its own. Aside from the negatives, it 100% helps with the pain and irritation of a canker sore. I don't know that it will heal it completely in a day like it claims, but it is a much longer relief than any kind of oral numbing cream/gel.

Hope that helps.

I don't know if there's a connection, but I've gotten far fewer of these since adding a multi-vitamin and extra D3 (2000 IUs when combined w/ what's in the multi) to my diet.

My husband gets those a lot, and the only thing that really works well for him I think is called oral medic.  It essentially cauterizes the ulcer, and is MEGA ULTRA SUPER painful to do, but once it's done, the canker sore pain is also gone.  He also has an arsenal of other items in the bathroom, but I'm not sure if he uses them for canker sores, so I won't list them, just in case  :)

Suffered all my life, have tried everything to stop them and nothing does.

But recently while taking Plaquinel thay have receded a little. so am the moment I'm well chuffed.

angielyn

My daughter about 2yrs ago had about 30+ of them all over her entire mouth, roof, gums ugh just all over. The Dr gave her a mix of lidocaine, benadryl and pepto bismol. It did help a bit with the pain. She had to hold and swoosh it in her mouth.

What angielyn is talking about is called "magic mouthwash".  I made a batch for my husband when he had a tonsillectomy, but I wasn't sure if it was used for mouth ulcers, too.  We use a mix of benadryl, xylocaine, and maalox (which is essentially what the one angielyn describes is, just ever so slightly different).  You can look online for the amount of each to use.  I think it might be 2 parts maalox to 1 part benadryl, with just a few drops of the xylocaine, if I remember correctly.

BonusMom

My rheumy rx'ed Folic Acid, 4 mg daily for prevention. When canker sores are present add swishing with Pepto Bismol 2x daily.

My rheumy says low WBCs are the reason the canker sores develop.

rheumy gives me prescription folic acid 1mg a day- does the trick for me..also, not sure if your on acid-reducer..prob the main cause of these things.
I take prevacid over the counter once a day..this helps too...I was shocked when i heard some people only these when they get acid-tummies. These
need to be taken every morning-everyday to work.

I always had cankers. In the 80's, my mom made me use alum and Cepacol mouthwash. Later I used ambesol, yuck. I have used peroxide on the canker itself and that helped some. My ENT perscribed smartwash mouthwash, it is a mixture of different drugs and you swish it, not swallow, and spit. It has helped my burning mouth and my cankers in my mouth. I also have cankers on my tongue.

babycakes

About 20 years ago, I was slammed with these for several years.  I was so miserable.  The only thing my dentist and drs would say was "it is some kind of stress on your body."  Well after a few years they went away except for an occasional one.  I rarely get them now even though my lips are dry, my mouth and throat are dry.  I believe those canker sores so long ago was SS working it's way into me.  Lucy
