Ok, so when my battle all started last year in April one of the blood tests my Dr did was for Vit D. Sooo, it's been a year now of taking 50k IU a week plus 1kmg daily (which sometimes I do forget or just having issues with swallowing so don't take them). The first test my lvl was 6... yes mega low. My last test he didn't give a number but said it's still way to low. WHAT???? A whole year and still low... HOW? What in the world could be causing my body to not absorb this or whatever else could be the issue? I just find it hard to believe it's still low after a whole year  >:(

He then gave me a script to have it checked again when I feel up to it. Ughh my arm is still black and blue from last week lol And with all the blood I've had taken my poor left arm is just dry with too much scar tissue so it gotta wait.

But, why or what could be the cause of still having such a low D lvl. Anyone have any ideas? I also take Calcium, B12 D3 and a few others.

i have low vit d and I believe most of autoimmuners have it. One doctor says that our muscles use up so much because of pain....don't know and don't understand. I live in Florida and I live for the outdoors but now I have to becareful of the sun because of the drugs I am on. I am going to ask all my doctors and see what each says.

I'm in FL too and my Vit D tested low. This is the first time I've had it tested, so am anxious to see what the tests show after a few months. My rheumy said I needed to get outside more, but I have the same problem as you..meds say no sun...

I was a competitive swimmer for years, lived for the sunbathing, had sun poisoning one year and now my face heats up so beat red and I can't get overly hot or I feel bad. I guess for us the sun is not enough. I drink milk and eat yogurt and still not enough. Have you asked why our vit d is low?

I've had mine tested 3 times so far in the past year and it's just really not going up at all. I'd think with all that I take it should be normal :) But, nope... Really hate to have to add another pill to take the rest of my life  :'(

I as well do not go outside when it's hot because I can't stand the heat... sadly I don't go out in the winter cause I can't stand the cold either haha

dainbramage

I love summer and it now kills me...
The cold is worse, especially this year.
When my face heats up my whole body gets hot and I am so uncomfortable.

Heat has bothered me for years, it just made me feel I guess "ill" just didn't feel good. Last year though. Wow it was bad. Not only did I feel very sick like flu sick but very bad muscle pain and just aches and pains all over. It was terrible. I remember we went to Delaware last year to see hubbys family. He figured taking me somewhere would help. It was a great idea, but it didn't work. Sitting in that car was terrible and torture, I was fine when he put the AC on though. His brother worked at a bar that we went to eat dinner at and it was on the beach. I got nervous at first, it was all open but had a roof so you got the nice ocean breeze and sitting there I wasn't too bad. So for me it seems I can be outside as long as I stay in the shade and don't get too hot.

I know when it's hot my entire body feels like it's over heating and if I don't cool off I'll pass out. And I do not sweat so I'm probably baking from the inside out haha  ;D

One and only

had mine tested last week,, was 18, was told to take a vitamin,, normal range was 24 to 70

dainbramage

That maybe the normal range, but my neuro said he wants my level near 50. Mine was 17 and I was on supplements.

angielyn

Yea I was told 50... I got a long ways to go from 6  :D

I had my checkup with my immunologist and we talked about Vitamin D levels. Mine is 19 or at least was the last time we checked it a year ago. I will be getting mine checked next week when I come in for my infusion. I asked about how long we should take it and if we can get an overdose. Was told that that is why the level is checked every year. It is absorbed but slowly absorbed. Also, some people with malabsorption problems probably absorb more slowly than others.

By doing the blood work they can keep track of the levels and as you can see "normal" has a very large range so we should be safe. Irish ;D

dainbramage

My vit d level is up to 30 now. I still have to take 50,000 for another 3 months and get tested again. Neuro wants it to be above 50.

louise

My doctor said because of problems with low acid in my stomach my body does not absorb vitamins like it should.
primary sjogrens, adderall xr, diclofenac ,vitamin d3, percocet, b12,b6, omega3, ibuprofen, protonix, voltaren gel, lots of sugarless gum and candy.

I wish my sed-rate and my Vit-D lvls would switch... Imagine how much better I'd feel  ;D
