Here's the update from Kay about 9 hours ago:

Annies temp is still 102.4 but resp rate is a little lower today! They went out on grass for about an hour (Until the storm moved in) and they both loved it! Happy fathers day to all the dads! Cam might be down a bit while we fix the desktop today

------------

Nancy, sounds like you had a very good day yesterday! :)

-------------

My DMIL is increasingly ill.  We made the decision to send her to the ER this morning and just got back in a bit ago.  The bad news is that things will likely not improve as her brain is showing significant deterioration on a CT compared to one 3 yrs. ago.  Vascular dementia and/or many small strokes in additioon to her congestive heart failure. We were hoping to find that some of the tests (other than the CT) would show out of normal range so there might be some condition to treat.  Sadly, there is nothing showing up.  Fairly extensive testing was negative on all counts.  SIL has accepted the need to call in a recommended hospice organization.  Who knows, with the additional care she'll get at her assisted living facility with hospice on board, DMIL may surprise us all with some rallies.  We can only hope.

I hope Annie's fever gets under control soon!  It has been a long long time. :(  Mary Ann, I am sorry to hear about your MIL.  It is so hard to watch our parents decline.  I am glad you have the option of Assisted Living and Hospice Care, that at least helps take some of the burden so your family can focus on making the most of her lucid moments.

I wish Annie and Teases cam would come back up.  I find myself going back to check on them over and over again!

Have a good evening everyone!

Nancy

The cam is back up!   ;D  Wow, that's some fan blowing in their stall, Tease's mane is just flying in the breeze.   :o

I hope the breeze blowing on Annie doesn't affect her (make her pneumonia worse).  I still worry about our little baby girl - don't want her to get any sicker than she already is.  Hoping her fever goes away - it's been hanging on and on.  Poor thing.

(((Mary Ann))) - I'm sorry to hear about your MIL.  It's always a difficult decision to make when our parents get older and need the assistance we can't give them.  May your MIL find comfort at the assisted living facility and hospice care when they join in too.

Mornin' all!

--------------

News from Kay...

Last night her temp was finally normal so I did not give fever meds. I am praying it is normal again this morning! Also her resp rate was way down. Not normal but down to about 60. Im hoping that new shot she got is kicking in and kicking this infection

---------

Oh I forgot to put Sallys good news from her facebook:

Wonderful news !! Autumn Escapade just set the National Seasons Record in 1.52.3f by winning the first leg of the MIss Versatility Series at Tioga. Just 2/5 's of a second off the World Record. George Brennan driving. What a great end to the weekend.

This is a standabred harness racing mare that sally bred that has been setting records and winning everything for the last couple years.

And yes at dinner we talked about getting her and Natalies cams up and running

------------------------

Im soooo happy! NO fever resp rate is even lower than last night. woohoooooo

--------------------

I swear she grew overnight again. She looks so tall today! Sally just called and will bring home the last shot for that new med she got on fri. Dr muese thinks that is what is kicking this.

===============

Thank you Nancy and Bucky for your words of condolence and encouragement regarding our situation with my DMIL. (Please keep the good thoughts that my own mother remains stable during this time---she is in assisted living also, has dementia too and COPD. :()

I have placed the call to the admissions coordinator for the recommended hospice service. Hope I make sense over the telephone to the admissions director when she can call back in an hour or so.  I ended up being up nearly 24 hours straight and back up after maybe 5.

Our DD Sarah who lives about 3 and a half hours away in Green Bay called late yesterday for the update on the ER visit. She is an RN who recently began working in hospice care. This weekend was very difficult one for her, exhausting hours as three patients were expected to pass on. I personally believe that many very ill people are somehow able to hold on to make it to a holiday of significance to them or family such as Father's Day. I'm a nurse also (retired/disabled RN times a dozen years now). Sarah was trying to be so professional...and she did have much welcome information and suggestions. But I felt so for her, just wanted to be able to hold her, comfort her about her dear grandmother. It's very hard to be the professional who is the family member, most particularly as her DGM's care will now be managed within DD specialty.

I have a minor eye infection going but thank goodness and MD, I  have all the use 'as need' back up medicines.

I'm not sure how often I'll be posting but I'll try in to check in as I can.

And I'll have Tease and Annie Joy up on cam whenever possible...hope they are having a good romp in the pasture right now! :D

I see Annie lying down. Looks like Tease keeps nudging her and making some noise...I hope they are doing well today!

Mary Ann - thinking of you this afternoon as you are coordinating the setup of hospice care for your DMIL.  It's a very stressful time for you and family.

I hope you get some much needed sleep once you are done talking to hospice today.

I know when I was helping with hospice care for my sister, nephew and my mother I would go day after day without much sleep.  As you know, when under hospice care, that care could last days, weeks or months.  Please also take care of yourself . . . you don't want to go into a huge flare from the lack of sleep and stress of the situation.

Hugs,
Bucky

I also read on the QB forum that little Miss Annie and Tease will be joining the rest of the herd probably within a week.  We'll miss seeing them both on cam.  :(  They (quilting ladies) are trying to talk Kay into having an outdoor cam so we can all watch Annie.   ;D

I just love watching Annie's little tail swishing back and forth.  One of our cats tail wags like a dogs.  It fun to watch.

Kay says:

[late yesterday morning]

We will hopefully be letting Annie and Tease out again later today. They were out about 2 hrs this morning so would like to see them get at least another 2 hrs tonight as long as its not storming

And yes Annie has to eat poo to get the bacteria in her tummy right so she can digest hay and feed.

Shes growing up right before our eyes literally.

I still cant wait till they can be back in the herd but I suspect it will be another week or so

------------------

[7 p.m. ET]

Annies fever is back :(

Thinking I should not have let them out again but I feel so bad for them stuck in that stall

They only eat their mothers poo

It puts good bacteria in their tummy in preparation for eating hay, grass, feed

--------------------

...if I had known she was running a fever I wouldnt let her out as it is humid and muggy now that the storm came through. Whenever the fever goes up so does her resp rate and in the heat it goes higher. She seemed fine when I put them out. Ughhh

------------------

I think I have to give the shot. Sally is bringing it home with her but she said it will be late. I am not sure if she gets it tonight or in the morning? Im sure Sally will tell me. Im so cringing at the thought

----------------

[No word on our girl this a.m. as yet...things have seemed pretty normal in the stall but I haven't seen any scrampering. Rusty has been in there but I didn't see a temp taken unless I missed it.]

Regarding my mentioning that I've not seen Annie doing any scampering:  Vet did say that that new powerful shot would make her sore and that she might even limp, not to worry about that.

Ahh...and there we have a mini scamper1  :D

good morning all!

I am trying to get ahold of Sally as she never called with her shot last night. She must have got home really late.

I am trying to find a morning helper to take her temp and give meds.

We do often put the cam outside until the weather gets bad. Its kinda fun to see them go out to pasture and then come running in at feeding time. This foaling season has been such a long one though not sure I can talk Russ into it lol.

huge storm hitting right now so I took the fan out just in case.

If the cam goes down its due to the storm

A QB friend post:

I will post a cute picture here as you can see the child?s face but the gesture and Annie is precious. Can you imagine the thoughts that child is having.....almost like Christmas.

Thank you so much Gina...your post was lovely and appreciated!

Now for just a quick note as I won't be here on the board much in the next two days.  DD Sarah is getting an early start from Green Bay and coming down so she can get here by 9 or ten tom a.m.  Hospice is on board now, was ahead of us on all the extra requests I made today...each thing was already in the works. :)  DGM?  She was so incohertent this a.m. that she couldn't even swallow little dribbles of water...then by noon was holding her own glass!  Go figure!

Anyone who wishes, please go ahead to post updates if you are aware of any.

Someone on QB posted this quote from the owners on their Marestare thread today:
"Day 367. We quietly watch the big bellied donkey laboring on the Serengeti. Shhh, quiet as she could spook and trample everyone to bits. Digging, stomping, switching her tail the donkey labors on into the night. Her little friend Rio stands guard, coughing every now and then as the donkey showers him with dust and debris. If you look real close you can see her owners going berserk! "

Just posted by Kay:

Hi all

Annie has just a tiny fever tonight so I am not too worried about that especially given how hot and humid it is right now. Another storm is blowing thru so hopefully that will cool things down.

Odd I havent heard from sally yet about her other shot. Hope all is okay with her.

[Answering questions about weaning] I HATE WEANING! Oh the crying is terrible and its usually not the foals its the moms. Our foals come in once per day and eat without their dams (moms) so I think that helps a lot. Shammy has already almost weaned herself LOL
