What foods do you eat when having a bad time with diarrhea?  I eat gluten free and try to get some protein from cheese. eggs or chicken breast.  But now nothing is working. :'(

I like to chew on a few imodium and wash them down with pepto bismal.

Banana Flakes are supposed to be good.

When you have diarrhea so not use imodium or other drugs, especially if you are IBS-C. You use the BRAT diet.

I also suggest the BRAT diet.  It always works for me or my kids.

Scottietottie

Unless it goes on for more than 2 days I stick to fluids and then introduce dry toast (washed down with tea) on day three.

Take care - scottie  :)

I knew you all would have some answers.  BRAT is right up my alley so I'll give it a try.  I tried toast and poached egg (for some protein) and even that was a problem.  Maybe I'm just in a bad flare.

harlin

BRAT diet is what is normally recommended.

Just out of cutiosity, what's wrong with Immodium? Sometimes it's the only thing that works...

Joe S.

Imodium drys out your intestines and can stop the flow. When that happens you can get more sick or have sever cramps and constipation. The BRAT diet sounds good.

Becareful of Pepto is you have IBS-C.

I increase fiber to add bulk to the colon to combat diarrhea - legumes and whole grains.  I don't have IBS or anything so I don't know if that would be too tough in that situation.

My biggest issue is flatulence (gas) and has no odor.  ;) To me anyway! ::)      Stools contain pieces of fruit and veggies that have not digested totally. Yes, I chew and chew and chew but still colorful stools. :o   I apologize if some feel this is TMI.

Have been diagnosed for years with diverticulosis. intestines 'blew out' at age 26 and had emergency surgery with repair and removal of 9 pockets that were highly inflammed along with one that ruptured. It was then I was diagnosed with diverticulitis.

Use to think I had IBS though medical profession does not mention it anymore. Constipation is not a problem.

Have learned to live with this issue... knowing that each season change of foods is going to challenge the digestive system. :P

I'm a Maalox and Gas-X fan...      Any other suggestions welcomed.

I'm another IBS-D person here and I also use the BRAT diet for diarrhea which is very much a part of my life.  :o My gastro was also the one who highly recommended that I use probiotics which I do use on a regular basis from the Health Food Store. The probiotics  that I use are a higher dosage and have more varieties in them than some of the usual ones found in the stores.
