Great Great Mim ,

Your doing it!!!   Remember when thinking of going one day without a cigarette was frightful?
All you have to think about is today, and today, and another today.

Horray ! Horray!  That nicotine is not happy that you are getting rid of it out of your system. It is trying to say oh come on just one, it wont hurt.    You are putting that thought in its place.

Horray!!!!!!

It's great to hear from you Mim, I was beginning to worry.  I was afraid Mim wasn't Stinking Purty any more ;) :D

I know it's hard, but when you think you want to pick up that cigarette again, re-read this thread again.  We love ya and want you to be healthier and stopping those stinking things will help your lungs in the long run.  Yes, it's a lifestyle change, think..healthier skin, healthier lungs, healthier life.  Keep it up!!

mim, Keep it up---you are doing great. You might have to find something to do to take your mind off of "it" over the weekend. Maybe a long walk as you will be starting to breath better or even better you could GO SHOPPING. Snag a friend and do something fun or you could also stay home with a bowl of popcorn(good oral chewing gratification) and watch some good movies. Take care and keep it up. You are on the road to recovery!!! Irish ;D

Congratulations to everyone who has been successful at not smoking.  I am sure that it has not been easy, but the health benefits will be well worth it.

I do have one question for all the smokers, didn't the smoke hurt your eyes and throat?  I had to stop going out to restaurants because the smoke was burning my eyes and throat or is that part of your reason for quitting.

When I quit back in '89, I didn't have any of the problems I have now.  If I had, however, the pull of the cig is greater than any ailment and it might not have made a difference.

Hey Lucy,

I have always had a problem with smoke hurting my eyes, even pre sjs, which most of my friends found strange seeing as though I smoked quite a lot.  Restaurants and bars were a nightmare, i could drink soft drinks all night and come out with eyes of someone who had drunk 10 straight scotches.  My throat had never been a problem with the smoking.  I sometimes think that sjs symptoms are such slow gradual builders that we do not notice the changes at all until they are at their ebb.  Hope this helps.

Oh by the way, starting day 7 it is my sons birthday today so family are popping over this morning, will stay strong.

Love n Hugs

I stink real purty now

Patze

Congratulations MIM, you are doing it!!!!!  Wahoo!

I understand what you are talking about with smoke in a bar/restaurant; I always had to sit in the non-smoking area and didn't even go to restaurants much before the smoking/non-smoking split.  My eyes would always kill me afterwards and I was a pack to a pack & a half smoker myself, and my throat didn't seem to bother me much at all.

By the way, I love the "I stink real purty now"!  That's such a great story!

Keep going and give your son an extra hug from me...

Rach

Congrats Mim!! :)

You"re a gal of "Steel Will".

I'm going to confession.  :'(
I couldn't  do it. The crinkling sound of cellophane beckoned me, saran wrap, not the cigarette pack.
I was working a piece of art, finished it and like always went out for my smoke.
Poof.... there I went, with that swirl of smoke.
Lucky for me, it's cold & windy out today, so I won't be going out much.

Rach,
don't give up.  You just have to make up your mind that this would be so much better for your health.  We won't criticize.  We'll just encourage.

Hugs,

I do not smoke and never have, but I know how difficult it is to conquer any addiction.  My husband smoked for many years and quit about 35 years ago.   I was so proud of him, because I knew it wasn't easy.  And I am so proud for all of you.  My husband would put the money that he normally would have spent on cigs into a jar each day, he saved up quite a little bit.  With the prices the way they are today you could really have a loot!! :D

My brother smoked for as long as I can remember and never would even try to quit, he died of lung cancer.

Please all of you don't give up. Yourlungs will thank you and so will all of those who love and care about by you.

Hang in there!!

Sue
