The article that I checked said that it is about the same. I think there is a little more voltage and current when you stimulate muscles. The computerized tones and zappers have more frequencies. The Computerized frequency generator that I now use ($230), provides me with control over wave shape, sequence, amplitude, off-set, frequency, and output voltage. It is driven off the USB port of the computer so the power is isolated.

I am looking at adding a broad band power amplifier output that can drive Neon bulbs and plasma speakers.

I tried a TENS unit about 18 years ago for sciatic pain, but it didn't work for me.  Probably because the guy who showed me how to use it didn't know what he was doing.  lol
