Mourning the Jalapeno...

I used to be able to eat HOT HOT HOT foods. Jalapenos were on everything except ice cream.  Now, I can barely stand my usual jalapeno addition. Sound familiar? ALSO, I have noticed over the past few yrs, these weird, white outlined patches all around the on the edges of my tongue. So many mysteries.

My tongue can no longer stand the hot stuff or any of the acidic citrus foods. If I do I know I have to put up with the mouth sores, blisters, bumps and so on.

Same here Cat, can't eat the peppers any longer either....boohoohoo!   I love it spicy, the spicier, the better I liked it.  Used to be that I could eat a very hot dish and have tears just roll down my cheeks as I ate (ah, those were the days ).

Hi Season, I avoid citrus as well as they both burn my mouth (I wind up with blisters and sores too, ugh).  The longer this mess goes on, the worse this these symptoms get.

I can't take a lot of citrus either, especially fresh pineapple. Like an explosion of acid in my mouth. Come to think of it...I don't drink OJ, anymore either.

Wow.  Now that you mention it, I can't tolerate citrus fruits like I used to.  They really burn my tongue.

I miss Wings smothered in Atomic sauce, now I cant even eat barbacue chips without making my mouth a orfice filled with sores and burning that last for days,

I can't eat spicy food anymore, I used to love it, but now gives me chest pains and makes me feel bloated.

My mouth got so sensitive that even ranch dressing was burning it.  Sometimes even the fizz from a Coke would burn my mouth. My tongue, gums and the inside of my mouth - not just my tongue.  I have noticed in the past year - I can tolerate foods a lot more again.  I believe it is due to the fact that I am on Neurontin for nerve pain from shingles - for the last year. I guess it is working on all of the nerves in my mouth also - since my teeth are getting really bad (no insurance or money to do anything about it right now) the Neurontin has probably saved me from a lot of pain.  My teeth are causing me to eat a lot different anyway - but having so many things burn my mouth was really a pain - at least that part is better.   I guess it is from the extremely dry mouth problem.  Mine is super bad.  Not sure why - but yesterday it was super-bad and today it isn't.  I cannot figure out why it's like that - but today I actually have some saliva for a change - which is extremely rare.  hmmmmm    I ate fried catfish and french fries - both fried in oil.  Maybe the oil is helping the dry mouth?   wow. If that is the case - that is not good.  LOL  I don't eat greasy food all time - but that is all I can think of why my mouth has saliva today.  Anybody have any experiences with extremely dry mouth and foods?   Please share!

My mouth is dry and dry and then dry some more. There is no way that I could eat the hot stuff anymore. I just don't have the saliva for it.

I haven't had saliva in so long, I wouldn't know what to think if I woke up with a moist mouth.

I have tried the Evoxac and the philacarpine and the only thing I get is side effects from it. I shake and shiver and get unbearably cold. My whole body gets that rubbery feeling and my heart feels weak and still no saliva.

Dry mouth is an ongoing battle.

MY sore spot, burning, is the center of my tongue. It feels like a cat's tongue sometimes!  And, one of the students the other day asked me, "Why do you have a line down the middle of your tongue?" Guess they saw it when I laughed or something. It is kind of sensitive, the "line". Overly dry sometimes maybe. ALSO, when I had a BX in November I awoke to a laryngeal spasm...from a  dry throat maybe?? It was very scary!
