I wish I knew what this pain was!

omgosh...I went to an dentist then to an endodontist who did a pulp vitality test. he said I need a root canal. This was just before my SJS dx a couple of weeks ago. I have some intermittent pain , some sharp, some dull, all achy, in some "soft, lumpy" tissue under my left cheek just in front of my ear. Sometimes it feels as if my ear is aching. It seems to relieve it somewhat what I massage it. I looked up that part of my face and it is right on the parotid gland.  (I don't have TMJ, and the Endo didn't seem to think it was Trigeminal Neuragia, which is something my dad had, even though I DO have sharp shooting pains in the cheek occasionally.) Does anyone have that? Could it just BE the RC issue? It just hurts. ;(

It could be that your tooth is infected or you have an abscess. I had the dentist take care of a similar problems after multiple visits to the doctor. The root canal and the antibiotics took care of things.

It could also be saliva or saliva and a little gravel trying to move down through the tube from the parotid gland. When that happens you can have these shooting pains that are really weird. The only way I can describe it is that they come and go in such a way that it seems like spasmotic or muscle spasms. Try some heat and gentle massage. Also drink some hot tea and suck on lemon drops or sour gummy bears. Sometimes a little bit of everything will help. Good luck. Irish

I'm not sure about what the cause of that pain could be.

Thank you, all. I am going to call the endo on Monday. They are very nice, and told me to call if I had ANY pain. (Because initailly I told them that I wanted to wait for the snow day in February. My principal doesn't like me asking off of work since I have used all of my sick days with the SjS.)

Looking FWD to updating after the RC that pain may be gone.

I DID call the Endo's line today. The on-call endo called in some pains med and an antibiotic for me. He is leaving a note for my endo so I am praying that they will take me on Monday to get this over with. School starts back up on Wednesday. I definitely don't want to be a swollen, blubbering idiot in the classroom.
