Any socks/nylon suggestions?

Hi Sjoggie friends.   ;D

You know how we Sjoggie's are "dry"?  Well . . for the most part - yep, I'm dry, dry, dry.

I just started a new job where I have to stand all day.  Ugh!  Not only am I trying to find a really comfortable pair of shoes for standing - but, I also have another problem.  I wish there was some way to re-route my moisture producing glands as my feet and hands are so sweaty while I am work.  There are probably two contributing factors . . . 1)  the job is new and I'm a bit nervous when things get busy  2)  it's hot in there (the thermostat on the wall usually says 73-75 degrees - and we cannot touch it).

I know my body produces moisture . . just in the wrong places!!   ::)

Does anybody have any suggestions for what I can wear on my feet that won't contribute to the sweating?  For instance - I either wear nylon knee-highs with dress pants or nylons with a skirt.  I think the "nylons" are making my feet hot too.  Ugh.

When I am home, I have the opposite effect . . . my hands and feet are cold!!   :o   ::)  I just can't win!

I'm looking for something that is lightweight and not real thick like a legging or anything like that.  I don't really want to wear knee socks - they are too heavy.  I've tried "trouser" socks before - and they make my feet sweat too.  I don't know if they make any kind of lightweight cotton socks that don't look like regular socks that one might wear with jeans - as I have to dress up.

Does that make sense?   ???

Bucky, you really need pure cotton ankle sox.
        Nylon makes the skin sweat,
Take talcum powder with you and use it frequently on your hands and feet.

A sandal type shoe would also seem more comfortable and cooler.
I know the pain of being freezing one minute and sweaty hot the next.

Bucky,
Try FootSmat.com  They sell shoes and stockings to accommodate people with leg and foot problems.  When I use to teach I would buy "Monroe' brand shoes. They are a little more expensive, but are made well and are comfortable for long hours on your feet.  Also "Clarks" is now making casual and dress shoes that are stylish and very comfortable.   Good luck.

Hi Bucky
I tried all sorts of different socks over the years and I swear by wool. I know it sounds like they may be to hot but they are arent, I cant tell you a brand as Im in NZ but if you can get pure wool youll never go back.
I couldnt do a job where Im on my feet a lot. Good luck with your job and with your sock issue  :)

HI Bucky:

Here's my two cents worth to reduce sweaty feet and look at different alternatives for socks:

First, after bathing and drying your feet, use an antiperspirant foot spray, and/or a foot powder. Put on the antiperspirant first, and then the foot powder, after the spray is dry.You can use a commercial foot powder, or use baking soda. Also you can use a regular underarm antiperspirant, but it is not as strong as foot antiperspirant.

Second, I would throw out all the nylon socks. Replace them with socks that are 60 or 70% wool combined with 40-30% man-made fibre. Socks that are all cotton are not as good because they do not hold as much moisture without becoming sodden, and all?wool socks become clammy. You could try socks made from bamboo fibre, which are supposed to be draw sweat away very effectively.

Third, make sure your socks are not too tight.

Good luck with your choice,
Daisy

Hi Bucky,

I often wear hiking socks to either keep my feet warm, and or keep them wicked.  You can get them in light weight, medium weight, or heavy weight and can usually be had for around ten dollars a pair (I go to a discounted mega "outdoor" store that usually has them on sale for around five to seven dollars a pair, sometimes even less).

Sometimes when it really cold, I'll use sock liners under the socks, and they are pretty good at helping to keep my tootsies a bit warmer and dryer.

Take care -
