Ebook Readers

I remember a discussion about this time last year about the Kindle.   I've been reading reviews on the Kindle 3g and its competitors.  Does anyone have advice about choosing one?  I definitely don't want a backlit one, but are there other considerations that involve eye strain?  Thanks!

Darn, no answers!, I've been watching this thread hoping for some equipment reviews, since I'm curious about the e-readers myself.
I've just recently started reading traditional books again, after being unable to for a very long time. I can no longer do the "book-a-day" I was accustomed to, since my focus (mental and visual) is so deteriorated, but I'm to the point that I can remember the plot long enough to finish a book! OK, maybe I re-read a few pages, once in a while

I was on amazon the other day and noticed a post for a reader plug-in for windows. I would hope that the plug-in would allow you to use your computer to zoom the text to make it easier to read.

While they are more expensive, because of my dyslexia I prefer books on tape. I am not blind enough yet to require the text to speech software.

My daughter and husband have the Kindle, and my daughter also has an iPad, which is what she recommended to my sister.

While my sister does not use the iPad for books, she uses it a lot for surfing the web, and that involves a fair amount of reading. She also gets the New York Times delivered on it. She has Sjogren's like I do, and difficult eye conditions in addition to the dry eyes. She loves the iPad and can read with it for quite a while. You can stretch the text size to whatever you want it to be, just using two fingers on the screen (my Mac laptop does that as well). You can also adjust the screen brightness to suit you.

The iPad is more expensive than the Ebook readers like Kindle, but far more versatile, and is certainly easy on the eyes, at least the eyes in our family.

I did a lot of research and decided on the kindle for a lot of reasons. I did not but the 3g because everywhere I go there is wireless.  Some reasons I bought the kindle  1. battery life of 1 month. holds 3500 books. let of free ones or really reduced price. I can change the fonts to any size I want and it can read to me. ( i like the mans voice better)  I did something to it the fist day I had it and Lindle support was a breeze to get through. I love how thin it is. How light and perfect sixe. i love the efforless page turning as well.  I bought a cover and really wished I had gotten a lighted cover. I love the kindle. I love the glare resistance as well. Good luck

Thank you Joe, Genko, and Nancylee!  It really helps to hear of others' experience.  I'll keep checking here, in case someone else has something to add.  Changable fonts would be good.  The option of listening instead of reading sounds like a good idea for those of us with eye strain issues.

Hi Cheryl,
I have one of the ones (Kindle) that first came out and I love it.  You can adjust the font and the battery lasts a long time.  If you turn if off when you are finished reading.    I have found this out quite a few times.

I'm new with NHL(MALT) .My parotid gland rapidly growing and biopsy show ,it is non aggressive B-cell NHL.My doctor send me  for Rituxan therapy.
Have anyone experience with these kind therapy?

My oldest daughter got a Slick brand E-reader for Christmas., the one that Borders Books sells. She hasn't even cracked it. No WiFi. I have to DL the desktop installers for her... She so hung up on WOW. (World of Warcraft)...Pretty sure she is level 1 million and something...

Update:  I received a Kindle 3G as a Christmas gift.   I love it already!  The glare-free surface and enlargeable fonts are really easier on my eyes than regular books.  I look forward to having it for travel.   Thanks for all the info from everyone;  I'm sure that the other brands of readers are equally nice to use.

I have the Pandigital Novel for Christmas. I like it a lot! It does ePubs and pdf files. You can change the font size, set bookmarks, highlight text, etc. Does mp3 files and video and internet/email/alarm, etc. It does color. I can read 10-12 hours on a charge, read while charging. It does wifi which is what most places I use it have. Yes, it weighs in more than the kindle, due to color and other capabilities but the kindle does only their software type, not ePub, which is more widely available. I just have a thing against proprietary products. iDon't do iProducts for the same reasons, plus the novel was much less $$. I guess I prefer having more choice.

Glad to hear that you're enjoying the Pandigital reader, Spring!  I would love to have all the features you mention, but I need to avoid the backlit screen.  Have fun reading!
