My first thought;  sure I'd take him.  I don't mind the lack of bedside manner.  I prefer no BS, get to the point, and don't stop looking until you know the answers.  

A doctor is not there to be my friend.  I need him/her to be straightforward, know what he/she is talking about, and the result to be explained...and make sense, logically.  I see House as being arrogant and obnoxious, but he fulfills all the necessary criteria.

I may be back after letting this topic churn in the squeaky wheels, but this is the first thing that comes to mind.  LOL

Considering he diagnosed a woman with Sjogren's in one episode by holding half an onion under her nose and then told her that after some prednisone she'd be fine, I'll pass.

The onion thing was a good idea. They don't make me cry anymore.

My neurologist and I were talking about House and she thought the show
was messed up,'Imagine all those doctors working on one patient'.

I was hopefully imagining just that. Seems like a great idea to me. Instead
the same process gets drawn out a half hour at a time for a year or years.
It's almost as if they want to wait until the patient is so messed up anyone
can tell what's wrong.

When I started out in electronic repair in junior high, we had vacuum tubes. There were repair people that were called tube jockey's because they tried each tube until they found one that works. They did not know what was wrong and often they did not fix the problem but created more. I see Dr House as one of these. He pretends he knows what is wrong and gives a bad Dx over and over until he finds something that may work.

I used to want him as my doc, but he has mis-diagnosed so many people and given them unnecessary surgeries, meds that practically killed them, illegally searched homes and offices, and wasted tons of time and excessive $$, enough that I really don't want a doc like him.  Even so, I love the show, and wish I had a team of genus docs who would work on my case and get it all right.

I would never want to be under his care.

He nearly kills his patients while misdiagnosing them several times before he finally gets it right. And I for one don't want my doctor to be so arrogant, egotistical or rude.  I need a medical partnership, and that's not House's style because he knows it all.

No, he always needs a shave.  He is arrogant, brusk, rude with a crappy bedside manner.  If I liked abuse, well then...........maybe.  I prefer my docs with a little more subdued style.  It's ok for me to have a big mouth, but not my doc.

I'd have him as my primary in a heart beat.  I too would prefer that he knows what ails me and is willing to treat the whole patient, not just the disease/disorder.

No thanks, his personality and mine would not mix well.  My favorite doctor is my GP in Florida.  He genuinely cares about his patients, is thorough and very kind.  Those are all the qualities I prefer in a doctor. 

I've worked for surgeons for years and you could see the staff gravitating toward different doctors.  It all came down to their particular personality and what they expected from a physician. 

I think we will get to know everyone a little better by seeing how many would like House for their doc.

Really fun topic - thanks for putting it up.

First of all, even though I'm a born and bred Joisey Goil, no way would I want Snooki for anything.  Funny line, Epson.

As to House - he's a Janus.  One side almost does kill his patients before he cures them and as a non white-knuckle rider, preferably non risk-taker probably wouldn't have him.
It's nice for a doc to have a good bedside manner, but not necessary far as I'm concerned.  Although the best doc for whom I ever worked is one of the kindest, most caring of his patients I've ever seen.  He's an orthopedic surgeon.

On the flip side, the other "face" of House thinks 'way outside the box, is definitely rude, arrogant and sometimes cruel - but don't we wish that more docs would think above and beyond instead of anchoring onto a Dx and refusing to put together the big picture.

Guess I just can't say yay or nay about House.  But I like Hugh Laurie.

Hugh Laurie is the biggest butt on tv. As a nurse, I am keenly aware of protocal, how to approach a patient with a caring, loving , empathetic manner.  He is an arrangant, jerk, who blurts out info to his patients that is devastating.  I'd punch he out the first day.  On the other hand, he is a good diagnositician.  He could function as a consult only for me.  If I really had an illness that was killing me, I'd consent to his expertise.

But, trust me.  He would sued by so many people for his dispicable behavior that he wouldn't last 2 wks before being brought to peer review.  And sued and let go for his inhumane treatment of patients. He is exactly the picture of what NOT TO DO.

I find him offensive, crude, and inept in human relations.  He may find the answers, but I'd only use him as a consult and last resort to a hopeles situation.

It is unfortunate that he has to nearly kill you each time before he cures you! Does make edge of your chair TV though.
