Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner - for the heck of it.

I'm cooking a full thanksgiving dinner today.  Started early in the morning while my legs can still function.  It should be done by noon time.   I'm tupperwaring it all so the family can eat it all weekend when ever they want .. getting their own from the tupper ware in the fridge.  Even the cranberries are in tupper ware and ready to go.

(not that us sjogrens people can have the potatos or the cranberries or the stuffing ... but we can have the turkey and veggies!)

Unfortunately, when I was getting the raw turkey ready it splashed and I got a drop of turkey juice up the nose.  Figures right?  Raw poultry is full of very yukky nasty germs.  Hope to goodness I don't get sick.  I was just trying to do a good thing.

Anyways ... house smells like thanksgiving.
Even with the windows open and a 90 degree day predicted.
Kinda funny .... but nice.

Sounds positively delicious!

I hope your family is deeply appreciative :)

Have a great day.

Liz -

YUM-O!!  Did you bake a pumpkin pie too?   ;)

Sounds like your family will be having some good eating this weekend.  Enjoy!!

Hi Liz,

Sounds like a wonderful idea to me!

There is no rule that says you can only eat Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving.  :D And I'm sure your family is pretty darn happy about it too!

Cheryl

Liz, I'm just sorry that you can't eat all of those foods.   I am not affected by foods the way you are.  You have my empathy!

I am in Eastern Iowa. They got a good deal on turkeys now - 68cents per pound.  :D
Hope everyone is able to get good grocery deals on their Thanksgiving feasts!

Ahh Sjogren's Angels:

Thanksgiving is the easiest of all, don't you think.  Yes I know, Italian families always have ravioli or whatever it is and each group has its "special courses'.  But the BASICS are the basics.

I, however, do NOT like Turkey and would do a BIG roast chicken if I had my way.  However, this year we are the hosts for the family 'do', so I will step up to a gobbler.

Advice:   Ask those coming if they have a special something without which it would NOT be Thanksgiving? Then ask THEM to bring it, creamed onions?, mashed turnips?  grandma's cranberry relish?, sweet potatoes a certain way?  WHATEVER?  A particular sort of stuffing/dressing?

I remember going to a Thanksgiving as a kid where there was Oyster Dressing!!   OMG OMG OMG, can you IMAGINE my horror???  Or even pecan cornbread would throw me for a loop.  We gotta have what we gotta have.

But usually turkey and potatoes and gravy and something with cranberries and rolls, and pumpkin pie, and a few other things thrown in, will do the trick.

I'm gonna have jumbo shrimp and cocktail sauce for an appetizer:  almost EVERYONE loves shrimp.  And it isn't soooo filling.

And one sister is bringing a pumpkin pie so I'll make pecan, I think.  Another sister is brining some sort of cranberry relish.

Keep is as simple as possible.

I'll have icecream and whipped cream for the pies of course.

Groan I'm already stuffed!

Kisses

there is only my hubby and me, so we usually go to the nearest Cracker Barrell and eat dinner. No dishes to clean. There is nothing like good food and family though.

The DILs aren't so crazy about having such a big meal with all the dishes, etc. I, however, being the mother of 3 gorwn sons have to make the turkey, mashed potatoes(a huge amount), gravy, stuffing and all the fixings. I make pumpkin pie with regular crust and one with gluten free crust for hubby and son. I also usually make a custard pie as the boys usually have another slice of pie sometime later in the day.

We have one boy who loves cranberries, I mean loves them. One year for Christmas just about every gift he got had a can of cranberry sauce in it. Of course, he was thrilled.

The really good part about these holidays is being with family plus having leftovers so you can eat a meal without any fixing. The leftover turkey is great on toast with mayo and a cup of tea. Can't wait. Irish ;D

Irish,
Would you mind giving me and those of us who are gluten free your recipe for gluten free pie crust? I'm making gluten free pies this year and a gluten free pound cake.  I hope they turn out all right.
Thanks!
