Eye exam with dialating eye drops

Hi there,
Due to insurance I had to change Optometrists.ugh!  They dilated my eyes with the yellow eye drops. I haven't had that done in what seems like a hundred years. It took over 24 hours for my eyes to go back to normal. The first day 8 hours later they were still dilated enough that I was wearing sunglasses in the house at 9:00 p.m. EST. The next morning, I still had yellow discharge from the drops, was nauseous, had a headache and feeling generally lousy. I ran some errands, took a long nap. When I awoke at 4:30 p.m I felt like a new person. All the side effects were gone.

Does anyone know if dilating eye drops are contraindicated for us? I've had Sjogren's since 1986.

I just had my annual full blown eye exam last week and the staff at my opthamologist always puts those darn yellow drops to dialiate my pupils in each time I get my full annual done.  I always have bad headaches for a couple of days afterwards.  The opthamologist and his staff are very well aware of the fact that I have 0 in both eyes on the schrimers and severe primary Sjs.  Doesn't seem to stop them or even slow them down from doing this.

I go to my eye doctor twice a year and while I don't like the burning of the dilation drops, my eyes are back to normal in about 6 hours.  For me the worst part of the exam is when they photograph the inside of my eyes, the light that they shine in your eyes feels like it's searing my eye balls.

I get the dilation drops a couple of times a year (lodes of fun, not), and I've also changed Opthomologists recently and had to have them done again, ugh.  The drops burn like no ones business, and it can take about 12 hours to finally see straight.  Ugh, the price we have to pay to see if they are still working wonderful and to keep them purdy too.

I feel for you Epson, I know that the pictures are too painful, and along with the drops, oh me oh my do they hurt so for the rest of the day.  Got to love it, pain and not focused, and we pay them for this lovely treat?

I get the dilation drops too during my exams, but it doesn't bother me as much. My doctor's office uses a less concentrated drop on me so its not as strong and doesn't last as long. I believe there are different strengths of the drop.

They also have reversal drops although some say they don't really work to make the dilating reverse any faster than if you just wait it out. I don't know...I have used them in the past.

My optometrist dilates my eyes every time I have an exam which is really what should be done. I get the yellow stuff also and it doesn't bother me much at all. I wear sunglasses afterwards but am still able to drive and don't have that sensitive feeling last very long. She knows I have Sjogrens and it the one to put me on the Restasis.

My hubby on the other hand suffers from having eyes dilated. Must be that we are all different. I don't know if there are many drugs that might interact with this drop. Irish
