Dear lori,

We're all different, of course.  But going in the pool has never made my knees hurt.  However the water has always been at LEAST 80 degrees.

Stairs are the killer for me.   That, and climbing up and down off a chair when I was packing for our move in February, are what blew out my meniscus.

Can you find a pool that is warm?   Closer to 85-90 is ideal for me.

Keep us posted.

Kisses,

Carolina.

It was probably a combination of the two activities, stairs are a killer.  Your husband is a smart man, a grill has no place on a deck if it's made of wood.

The pool itself does not cause me joint problems or knee problems.  But I also have had psoriatic arthrits for 25 years, and certain strokes when swimming cause my knees or lower back to hurt.  I've just modified my stroke to avoid this as much as I can and continue swimming because it's the only exercise that doesn't hurt my feet.

I do water aerobics, not real swimming.

Steps are a killer on knees, especially since my knees are already worn out and 25 lbs. over weight to boot!!!  : :-[

Water creates extra resistance on bod that one does not realize until the next day...oh my aching knees!!!! And, I wear special water exercise shoes to boot!!!! >:(

Cooler water has helped 'pull' the inflammation and swelling out of body while exercising. Though new sjoggie gift of peripheral neuropathy is screwing up where my bod wants to be. Warm water pool is like bunch of bees stinging me and lap pool causes my toes and portion of feet and end of fingers and palms of hands to turn purple and hurt. Especially when getting out and taking a warm shower. :(

Lori:

Have you tried hot tubs?  104 degrees.  I love it.  Make me sleep better at night too.

I take an arthritis class in a wellness poool ( 97degrees ) twice a week.

this pool i refer to is the neighborhood/subdivision pool and i am there becuase of the kids- not swimming- just getting in to cool off.

went again today and went in for a 15 min segment- moved my arms and legs around to get a bit of low stress excersis.  hopefully tongiht will be better. i thought cool water would be good for inflamation- maybe its the fibro that doesnt like cold. I have so many things going on its hard to tell what is what!!!

Im just gonna have to deal with it cause I have two boys - 9 and 11 who cant go unsupervised

Autoimmunity

The one thing that really helps me when I have neck and shoulder pain is icy/hot.  I find that it really helps me.  That or a heating pad.

ok I think I figured it out... fiirst day I used to ladder to get out... yesterday i used the steps. definelty need the steps. it was the pulling up on the ladder taht did it... ok lesson learned!!! thank God is wasnt the water- i love the pool

Carolina

OMG Lori!

If I had to use the ladder to get out of the pool, I'd never ever get out.  Between my weak legs, and my arthritic hands, I would just stay in the water and turn into a prune.

GLAD you found a way to enjoy the water, which is such a joy.

I miss the good old days. Things were more like they used to be back then.

Sjogrens, Lupus, Fibro, GERD

Lori--I hope you can continue to take advantage of the pool!  Do you wear a hat and sunglesses to keep the sun from boiling you?
I also go to some water aerobic classes with temp at 90@.  I have no other pool available for me.  I wish I did and I'd use it all I could as I love to swim.  I'd have to watch i didn't over do.  Happy swimming to all.

Lori, How fortunate the pool has steps! Go Girl...have fun!!! :D

Lori,

The RN at the YMCA told me that cold water makes people with Fibro hurt.   Wait a little longer until the pool gets warmer and then go on in.  I go into the "family pool" at the Y and it's warm.  The lap pool is colder.

Just a thought.
