I'll see your Lip Biopsy, and raise you possible Mouth Cancer. WHAT THE HECK?

I feel like I'm playing poker with the doctors.

I went to a mouth doc to see about getting a lip biopsy done. He's off-hand and asking me if I'm feeling under stress, could that be the cause of my dry mouth...yada yada yada. Same old, same old. It's like they see I take an anti-depressant and write me off as a psycho-somatic worrier...

THEN he looks in my mouth, sees what I thought was a regular mouth ulcer and everything suddenly changes. He's prodding and poking, discussing things in rapid Greek with his nurse, popping out to consult another doc, telling the receptionist to get me an urgent appointment with a specialist...

SCARY. It just looks like a boil, only its in that little pocket in my lower lip. Right where they'll do the lip biopsy. After all.

Just had to share this. Don't want to freak my husband out. Yet again.

That is terribly scary and he sounds like an idiot of a doctor!!!  I hate when they totally leave you out of the conversation and speak with the nurse and/or other doctors - - he should have been talking to YOU.  Hopefully, you'll be OK - - please keep us posted - prayers are with you.

Hi, Suzie,  although rightly so you must be feeling worried,
but if it is suspicious, it's good that he has noticed this.

How long have you had this "ulcer" ?

If one has ulcers they should report to the Doctor, if they do not heal in 3 weeks.
I have a huge one on my bottom inside lip right now, which is into its 3rd week today,
if it is not gone by Friday I'm off to see about it.

Does your Doctor know that they are very common in us Sjoggies?
I pray that it goes soon, as you already have enough to deal with .
As said , keep us updated ,  Hugs Dolly

Honest to GOD!   Doctor's, can change 'em and can't shoot 'em.

Stay calm (easy for ME to say).

Sigh.

Keep us posted.

Hi Suzie

His initial approach sounds just awful but thank goodness he's wanting to move quickly after the examination. Waiting for tests and procedures is the pits. There's no dx yet but obviously the sooner it's looked at the better.

Take care - Scottie

get him alone in a room,, and choke this idiot,,,

Suzie

Heh heh, Navy Dad!

Thanks, everyone. It was quite a shocker, having got used to seeing endless docs and not being taken seriously.
I was all calm and laid back, I was the one saying, "It's probably just a cyst" while he furrowed his brow at me. I think he got a nasty shock. He was very nice (for a Dr! LOL), no complaints there. For once.

But look at it from his point of view. I'm only 35, preppy looking and outdoorsey, don't drink, don't smoke, eat well... I just read that you'd expect to see these things in older men who smoke 2 packs a day and drink like fishes. But some explanation and platitudes would have been nice. In English, dammit.

It's only been there for about 5 days. I bet it'll be gone before I see the next doc!

I'll update soon, or just come back and kvetch and kvell and plutz some more at y'all.

The title of this thread has been slightly altered due to concerns about appropriateness.

Susie, I hope the findings are totally innocent, but at least it got your doctor's attention! Seems like, in addition to being rude and prone to stereotyping, he's not very considerate or eager to find answers. At least it sounds like you're only seeing him on consult for the biopsy, and once that's done you never have to see him again!

Sorry about my language, Linda. I'll be more appropriate in the future.

The supposedly suspect cancer in my mouth has VANISHED! What the deuce!
Darn, stinking, stupid, annoying, frightening doctor.

It's almost completely gone. As far as I know, cancers don't shrink, do they? There's just a slight patch of red there now. No little boil thing. Nice and flat (it was the raised nature of the carbunkle that had 'em spooked).

I'm scheduled for a biopsy of the area anyway, next week, just to be certain. At least it takes the "Should I? Shouldn't I?" have the lip biopsy for Sjogrens done, out of my hands. Gotta get my lip cut into anyway, so it's a two-fer.

Hi Suzie  :)

That all sounds very hopeful! I know nothing about cancer but I wouldn't think it would be there and then go.

Take care - Scottie  :)
