Is anyone with IBS able to drink much coffee?  I need this for my research to find a cure for SS. ;D

Scottietottie

Hi Epson  :)

I have IBS but usually find it hard to go! When I need to - I drink a strong black coffee with 2 sugar and it helps. I have irritable bladder syndrome as well and was told to cut right back on tea, coffee, alcohol, citrus fruits/juices, tomatoes and spicy food. Well I don't like the taste of water so I reckon I'll just keep peeing a lot!

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hey Epson, experimenting again?  Now that's scary!!!!  :o  Just teasing!

I can't drink coffee and juices much as they just kill my stomach, and I do have IBS.  I do eat spicy food as that is a staple in my diet :D, just don't mention that to the gastro, okay?   ;) :)

Take care of yourself -

No Epson, never a coffee drinker, or consume alcohol, or ever a smoker! ;)

Though could run a mile as a teenager and not even be 'winded!'   :)

And, now I often think, WHY ME????? Then I realize it is in my mother's side of genes. :(

And, looks as if I have passed it on to my only daughter. :'(

Need to post this and MOVE ON...   Joy

Love coffee... About 3 years ago (slightly before Sjogrens kicked in) started having problems with coffee. Not always, but sometimes - drink coffee, and dash immediately to bathroom with diarrhea.  Experimented with different brands of coffee, eliminated milk in case that was the issue, etc.

Had IBS-like symptoms last year, and eliminated almost every interesting from my diet til I got stabilized (6 months of boring food!). Coincided with my diagnosis of Sjogrens. Started adding things back in, including eventually, coffee. Yeah, at first I was fine. For about 6 weeks. Then the drink coffee-dash to bathroom cycle started again.  The really frustrating thing was that it was intermittent. The funny thing was that I kept using the same brand throughout, making it the same way, and sometimes it triggered me and sometimes it didn't. I've just stopped drinking coffee about 3 weeks ago. Miss the smell, miss the flavor. I think I just can't trust it.

I'm drinking tea now, but it's sure not coffee  ;)

Love the smell of coffee, hate the taste. No coffee for me.

Ranch dressing and tarter sauce, I love, but they send me on a run within 20-30 min....to the ladies room.

Chinese food, probably the MSG does the same thing to me. All those things that trigger my IBS could easily replace the colonoscopy prep treatment.

Since the SJS constipation thing can be a problem. My DR  (GP)  ask if I needed help with that. I told him no , I knew exactly what to eat , to resolve the problem.

Now for my theory, IBS is an autonomic disorder so the caffeine in coffee over stimulate the bowel, sounds good.  I love coffee but it doesn't like me, but I can eat all of the spiciest Thai and Indian food with no I'll effects. Still working on the cure ;D

Go Epson!! Could you please hurry up with that cure. I can't take much more of this!!
I cannot do any caffine at all. I love coffee but it hates me. Stomach cramps, the whole 9 yards.
Sometimes even decaf bothers me too.

Hi again  :)

My son has Crohn's Disease and has found that he can drink coffee - but can't drink tea. Drinking tea causes him considerable pain. Weird huh?

Take care - Scottie  :)

A friend of mine went to Mexico and was Rx'd a coffee enema until it came out clear of solids if that is of any help. I have not tried it. I can not wrap my mind around the concept.

Not sure I have IBS, either I have diarrhea or am constipated, never a happy in between.  When I first got RA in 1984 I gave up all caffeine for over two years.  I drank Sanka and actually developed a taste for it.  But after two years I went back on caffeine and did not notice any difference.
I do drink regular coffee now, the only thing I can really say is if I am constipated it seems to help me go.

Joe S, is that coffee enama with cream and sugar or black? ;D

Joe S.

I think he took his coffee enema black but what he drank he took with cream and sweetener.
