inferior saliva?

Hi everybody,

I know that even though some sjogies produce tears, the tears are of inferior quality due to the fact that the oil glands have been damaged.  Is the same possible as far as saliva goes?  I quite often have a dry feeling in my mouth - my tongue and roof of the mouth - but can feel saliva welling up under my tongue.  It's weird.  I don't know - maybe the gland under my tongue hasn't been damaged yet - is it possible to have some glands damaged while another isn't?  I'm thinking there's something going on with my parotid glands since sometimes I get a pins and needles feeling in them.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Nan,

I don't have a good answer for you but have the same problem.  Tongue and throat feel dry all the time but the Evoxac has helped to have some moisture under my tongue.  My hygienist says that is where saliva pools.

I woke up around 4:00 am to go to the bathroom.  I typically take my Evoxac at that time.  I was in a pretty groggy state.  I took the pill and fell asleep until 7:00 am.  I, for some reason, reached over and took another Evoxac.  As soon as I swallowed I realized I had taken at 4:00am.  Anyway, about half hour later, I had a mouthful of saliva and it was wonderful.  Some people dream of money but I would settle for a bucket full of saliva and tears any day. :)   Decided I will only leave my morning dose of Evoxac by my bed instead of full bottle.  Can't trust me when I'm not fully awake.

Hope someone has a good answer for you.

Hi Nans  :)

I'm not sure - but I do believe it to be so. I've always had lousy teeth. I've always been accused of poor dental hygiene. I know for a fact that I brush, floss, use interdental sticks and also see my dentist more than any of the rest of my family. My siblings have good teeth and my kids have good teeth and my mouth is a disaster area.

I told a dentist once that I just didn't believe my saliva helped to keep my teeth clean. he was sceptical but I still think it could be the case!!

Take care - Scottie  :)

Well way back when I had wisdom teeth out the dentist I had then said I had tremendous saliva glands.

About 10 yrs ago I started having teeth cavity problems. Of course my dentist said I wasn't taking care of my teeth good enough. Up until then I maybe had 5 cavities my entire life!!! Well that was about the time my SJS symptoms started.  I notice dry crackers stick to my mouth terribly now. Sooo I now have less saliva (more dryness) in my mouth = lots more cavities. Sigh :(

Partorid glands: Yeah mine swell and subside at various intervals. I am slightly swollen now on my left side under my left ear. I think the "germ stuff" gets backed up and goes there.

I've been meaning to ask the same question, because I have the same situation!  I can tell there's saliva in my mouth under my tongue, but the rest of my mouth feels dry and cottony.
