Hi.

My hubby so longingly wants cable tv.   ::)  We wanted to know those of you who have Dish Network or Direct TV what you think of them.  Do you get good reception when it's windy or rainy?  What ever the pro's and con's you can share with us.

Personally, I don't think we need cable . . .we could use that money towards other things.

Thanks for any input.

Hi Bucky, we recently switched to Direct TV and I would say it is pretty good. We did have it go out once for a bad storm but only for 10 minutes. We had a promblem with one of our tv's and we called and they came out the next day. The only thing I suggest is do buy the service plan, we did and it saved us the service call. I have a friend who didn't buy the service plan and they were charged just for the service man to come in the door.

We have had Direct TV for many years now, I must say it's pretty good. You select the plan you want, but all plans offer more channels than cable, by far we have additional stations that cable viewers have in our area never heard of, or will not have. We find that it is less costly than cable was when we used it.

As far as the satellite going out during storms, it does only in extreme weather for a few minutes, but so does cable. They have improved the satellite reception from what it was years ago, so for us it really is not an issue.

I agree get the service plan, since the 10 - 15 years of use we have called them out only two times, but I'm glad we did not have to pay when they came, it is quite costly to be hit with it all at once.

Hey Bucky

We had Direct and then we switched to Dish. Because with Direct we could not receive local chanels.

Then with Dish we also recieved the DVR package. I DVR every thing I intentionally want to watch. Because then I can watch it at my convienence and fast forward comercials.  :)
