It's lovely to hear details of each other's days.  Tabby - I could just visualise your drive across the moors.  We had a few days in York in early September and visited Rievaulx abbey.  What a beautiful setting!  I can just imagine how the autumn colours have changed the trees there and the moors around.  Is Ripon a good place to live?  I love Yorkshire but only get to visit once a year - it's quite a drive from Brighton.

I'm going to spend some time now collecting leaves in the garden as Bucky suggested.  Then I'll be ready for Bucky's command to retrieve our leaves and remember sunny autumn days.  Probably by that time I will be garden-less having moved to a flat nearer the centre of town.  So the leaves will be a reminder both of my lovely garden and of you all.

Day 7

Happy Tuesday everyone.   ;D  Today is Day 7 of our 30 day commitment to being outside for at least 10 minutes each day.  Wow, can you believe it's been a week already since we started this venture??

To date, we have 37 members who are participating in this 30-day venture.   ;D  Woohoo!!

This morning I put my husbands coat on and my boots and walked around the property.  Our house is surrounded by woods.  I walked around the yard along the tree line.  You could hear the crunching of leaves and cracking of tree branches as the squirrels were running around in the woods.  The birds were really chattering away today.  I would love to know what they were talking about!   :D  Ahh, to be a bird where the only three things you had to worry about are:  food, shelter and not being someone else's dinner!!   :o  Birds (or any animal for that matter) don't have to worry about house payments, car payments, doctor bills, school bills, clothes, insurance for house/self/vehicles, groceries, utilities and the list goes on and on.   They don't have those worries or concerns.  How lucky they are!!

fatburningmachine - it must be rough being in Hawaii watching the grandchildren!!   :D  Enjoy your time there.

I hope today is a good day for everyone.  I am so proud of all of us . . . this is awesome that we have 37 members participating!!   ;D

I ove your vivid descriptions of your surroundings. They take my brath away. I would love to be there with you :). I didn't manage any time outside today, but I did have a nice ten minute walk in mylunchtime yesterday.

Chickpea and Tutor, I drive home from work over Ilkley/Baildon moors every day. They are beautiful. I love them, and all the different colours. My will even dictates that I am 'sprinkled' there when I pass on.

Sorry have been away from the boards for a couple of days. Friday I went to my daughter's boyfriend's football game - they lost but it was still a nice two hours in the sun. Then Saturday I went outside and watched my husband pull the old dead stuff out of the vegetable garden. Sunday was lazy football day, but I did manage some outside time doing laundry. Yesterday I did not make it out. Work, my daughter's physical therapy and household stuff kept me inside, but I will get out tonight I swear!!!

Have a great night everyone!

Day 8

Happy Wednesday everyone.   ;D  Today is Day 8 of our 30 day commitment to being outside for at least 10 minutes each day.

Not to sound like a broken record, but it's another wet, cloudy day here in IL.   I heard on the radio this morning that this is the eighth wettest year we've had.  I believe it!!  To shake up my routine a little this morning, I stepped out on the little "porch" (actually, it's just a little cement slab) on the back of the house for my 10 minutes outside.  I wish we had a patio or deck on the back of our house . . . maybe some day.  There isn't a whole lot to "see" in the backyard.  Just a big backyard and then the woods.  You may get tired of me telling you about the birds singing, but I truly enjoy listening to them.  They must have been "talking" to each other as I would hear a sound to my left and then an "answer" coming from the right.  I'm sure they DO communicate between themselves.  Then I noticed the squirrel nests way up in the top of the trees.  I think it is so cool that animals just know how to build shelter.  They don't have to attend Nest Making 101 classes.   ;D  With the way the tree tops sway in the wind some times I wonder how they can hold on and not fall out of their nests?!  Nature is so awesome to watch.  I love it!  By the way, I also heard the cows mooing too (they are half a mile down the road) and on some days you can "smell that fresh country air"!!    :o  :D

I hope today, better known as hump day to some, is a good one for you.    Have a great day!   ;D

>>>They don't have to attend Nest Making 101 classes.<<<

We had a mockingbird couple make a nest in one of our Washington Hawthorns and they definitely could have used a Nest Making 101 class!  ;D The nest fell apart and sent the babies tumbling to the ground.  :o  Good thing I found them before the cats did!  I got a Cool Whip container, drilled some holes in the bottom to let water drain, put what was left of the nest inside and tied it to the tree where the nest had been.  I then scooped up the babies and placed them in.  I was concerned that Mom and Dad would not return to care for them, but they did!

I got home tonight from a few days vacation in Northern Michigan.  It was cold and rainy the whole time.  We were going to leave on Saturday, but I was sick (ie. not able to move my legs or find a comfortable position in bed.)  I also did not go to my volunteer stint on Friday because of the same illness.  Sunday, we left and this day and all others until today, I made the 10 minutes outside.  I also did quite a few 10 minutes indoors.  I went to several casinos and walked quite a bit.  Good for you, ingesting the smoke etc.  I thought I was #22, but will not care what # you call me.  I'll report here occasionally.  Lucy

What should have been my first day and I had to renege! Guess I am having an overload to the point of exhaustion. Now that I can see my house I have been scrubbing and cleaning almost nonstop. I was still at it late last night, Painting kitchen, scrubbing floors on my knees, today I am beat!

I hope to feel up to it tomorrow!

I enjoy reading of all the beauty in the lives of all.
I too love nature from a distance, that is. Too afraid of animals to interact with them, but love to watch them and the trees and flowers.
I got one single red rose on a bush that seem to be holding one, this one rose is most beautiful to someone that has not clearly seen colors in years. Beautiful!
My Moses in a Cradle is still full and vibrant with strong purple colors.

I spent my time last night outside watching my daughter do her Halloween dance show for two hours. Will be doing that again tonight and tomorrow night. Definitely getting lots of outside time, even if it is wrapped in multiple blankets and wearing two coats. lol.

It's totally worth it though. I love to watch her dance.

The advantage of cold weather over hot is that we can bundle up against it, but just suffer in the heat. At least that is the case for me. A nice incentive to be outside, Roetta.

Day 9

Happy Thursday everyone.   ;D  Today is Day 9 of our 30 day commitment to being outside for at least 10 minutes each day.

This morning the sun was actually shining when I was outside.   :D  Sunshine always makes my day feel better.  I put my boots on and walked around the tree line today.  It's quite windy here today.  Instead of it raining water from the sky, it is raining falling leaves from the trees.   :(  Our beautiful maple trees in the front yard only have a few stranglers of leaves hanging on, the rest of the leaves are on the ground.

While I was outside today I was thinking about the upcoming winter months.  Last night I saw some pictures on-line of some deep snow already hitting some areas in the Midwest.  Thankfully, not where I am!!  I need to gather my winter supplies and make sure that everything is ready to go.  Hats, gloves, boots, coats, window scraper, etc.  I keep all the winter clothes (gloves, ear muffs, hats) in a clear, see thru tote in the coat closet.  I had better check everything BEFORE I actually need them and make sure everything is there.   I don't like to be unprepared.  How many times I've seen people run to the store the first time winter hits and are searching for gloves, hats, boots.  Plan ahead!!  IF you have a little extra money to spare, next time you're in the store pick up an extra pair of gloves or a hat and donate them to the different organizations that collect those sort of things.  Here we have a Coats for Kids campaign every year.

I hope today is a good day for you.   ;D

Love your updates, Bucky. Yes, we have the coats for kids scheme too. The local dry cleaners usually collect and distribute them.

Happy Thursay to you too :)

Hello all. I haven't logged in for a while and just found your 30 day commitment. I will commit to 10 minutes outside for 30 days-it sounds like a wonderful idea. I think we could all use some "me" time. Thanks for making the suggestion!

fluffiebunnie

Late to this post, but you can add me to the "10 minutes a day" gang!

I have four rabbits who I tend to each day which takes much longer than ten minutes!! I have to uncover them from the overnight tarpaulins, and give them vegetables and rabbit food, plus lots of fresh hay in the morning, top up their water and sweep up the rabbit runs.

Today is a glorious day - I went outside with T shirt and trousers only as it is very warm and the sun is shining - almost like an early summer's day, except there is that Autumn feel to the air.  Everything covered in damp dew.

Just lovely saying good morning to all the bunnies in the lovely weather.

Got outside quite a bit on Thurs. I raked leaves so the Trick or Treaters could get down the sidewalk.I sat on the porch handing out candy holding my doggie and visiting with the kids and parents. It was a beautiful day out.
