Don't know what number but I am here.  Try and get out every day for a walk.  Can't go as far as I used to because of pain/discomfort in feet.  Lucky that in our are our local community center has a free walking track I can use in bad weather.  Getting ready to go over number two son's house to walk his two pound puppies.  Roxanne

Try to go outside everyday so add me to the list. It was beautiful here in PA for the last 2 days but rain is on it's way. Just in time for the high school football game. Every game for the last 3 weeks.
Wonderful idea Bucky

#6 reporting in, I thought I posted yesterday, but never found it. Have managed to get outside for at least 20 minutes all 3 days. The weather here has been wonderful, so that sure makes it easier. I will never complain of cold since I live in Georgia and know those further North would laugh at me. This is the best idea I have seen in a long while.

Bucky,

Buzz Killington reporting: During late autumn through winter, little or no vitamin D can be produced by sun exposure at latitudes above 35 degrees north latitude, since I live well above 35 degrees latitude and we have heavy rainso  I did the next best thing, I opened the refrigerator door for 10 minutes for my light exposure while guzzling a gallon of milk, while wearing only a pair of speedos.  I feel better already.  Oh, fall started September 22 at 5:18 EDT.

Genko, I only wish I could piss like a dog on the run, darn bladder cancer! :D

Hi Bucky and fellow team members

I'm delighted to say I walked 10 minutes up the hill to the sandwich shop at lunch time, and then 10 minutes back - by which time my feet were barking, but hey - I did it. That was the first time in weeks that I have had the confidence/energy to do that walk.

Buzz you are to funny for words.I had an exciting walk around the yard yesterday.A wasp nest was burrowed in the grass and puppy stumbled across it.Poor baby got stung and I got the stinger out and found the dead bee in her fur.Today is raining but DH has trained the dog to expect an umbrella held over her so I guess it will be this idiot doing it today.

Today the sun kept appearing between the clouds and then we had some lovely blue skies.  The sea at Brighton looked glorious.

I wasn't sure I would get to spend much time outdoors between a neighbour's funeral this morning and a hospital appointment for IV iron infusion this afternoon. My son Gabriel came home for the day, accompanied me to both the funeral and the hospital, and then suggested a walk by the sea.  So off we trundled with me in my trusty wheelchair, to enjoy the light breeze and the beautiful views over the sea.

Thanks again Bucky for this idea.  It certainly makes me think each day about how important it is to get out in the fresh air.

In addition to my time out in my own yard today, I spent time in another yard - the prison yard - on my way to the Friday night group of inmates I work with. The prison is on top of a windswept hill, pretty bleak and barren, except for a few flowers (donations from a local nursery) some of the men have planted around the edges of the yard, in the shelter of the prison walls.

Tonight there was an absolute downpour as I passed through the yard to the chapel building. I stepped out of the security gate literally into a foot of water! My shoes, socks, clothes - everything was soaked clear through by the time I got inside the chapel at the other end of the walk. No umbrellas allowed inside as they can be made into weapons. Also no running in the yard, so we all walked as fast as we could without getting into trouble with the guards.

The rain had slowed down by the time the inmate group was over, and so it wasn't too bad walking back to the units. We all came out into the yard, and one of the men stopped and took a deep breath. "Don't you just love it after a good rain - how fresh the air smells? How wonderful!" I walked back through the security gate still sopping wet, enjoying the night air, and drove home to warm, dry clothes and a cup of chamomile tea.

Wow, I am still trying to catch up with SJW.... Bucky this thread has me all worn out.  Kept falling asleep.

Then I read about Epson in his speedos and woke up completely.  ;D

I can't go to bed with that image...... :o

Give me a number.  I am in too.
I will be a late come one. But I have been outside a lot.

Great idea! Count me in! I work from home (teaching) and when at home all day just go out maybe once an hour,  walk around the garden and talk to the sheep in the neighbouring field - gives me a stretch, clears the head and at thiis time of year I love the Autumnal sights and smells!

Day 4

Happy Saturday to everyone.   ;D  Today is Day 4 of our 30 day commitment to being outside for at least 10 minutes each day.

To date, we have 33 members who are participating in this venture.   ;D  Kimbo, you are #32, and Tabby, you are #33.  I can't tell you how thrilled I am when I check the boards each day and see that we have someone else who has joined along in our little venture.   The next person to join if you would put the number #34 after your name, then we can resume counting.  Thanks.

Thank you to those who are sharing what you have done with your time outdoors.  Genko, the Japanese Garden is beautiful.  Chickpea, the stroll along the sea sounds wonderful.  Buzz . . aka Epson, well . . . . . the visual of you standing in front of the open refrigerator in your speedos . . . gee, thanks for the visual!!  NOT!!  ;D

This morning I literally walked in someone else's shoes . . . well, in this case, boots.  I put my sons boots on to walk around our property.  Actually, he has given me these pair of boots - as a growing teenager, he has outgrown them.  It still warms my heart when I put them on and think that he has worn them and passed them on to me.   ;D  (I admit, I'm a sentimentalist . . . is that EVEN a word??).   Anyhow, I live out in the country.  The only sounds I heard in my walk were the two planes flying overhead, someone doing target practice in the distance and the birds chattering and singing.  I have no idea what sounds different birds make to know who is making what sound.  Maybe that is something I will look into this winter.  We had a family friend who could tell you which bird was which by the sound of their chirp.  I wish Mr. B was here today to walk along side me and share his wisdom of nature with me.  Wonder if birds ever get a sore throat??   ???

I hope everyone has a great Saturday.   The sun is just now peeking out . . . hmmmm, I might have to go outside again later on today to walk in the sunshine.   Yes, Buzz . . . I know I won't get any Vitamin D from the sun unless I am out there in my shorts (which I won't be), but I'll put my sunglasses on and just pretend.   ;D

Today's ten minutes was a bit more mundane - my husband and I walked to our local Mexican restaurant for dinner. It was a clear, crisp, beautiful fall evening. All the houses and shops have pumpkins out in front, and I love walking at night through crunchy leaves, past the lit-up windows, and imagining everyone settling in for a cozy evening at home. A nice change from yesterday's deluge - my shoes are still drying out! Here's Basho's haiku for today:

All along this road
Not a single soul - only
Autumn evening.

Day 5

Happy Sunday to everyone.   ;D  Today is Day 5 of our 30 day commitment to being outside for at least 10 minutes each day.

Sunday mornings are quite busy here getting ready for church, but I did make it outside for my 10 minutes.   ;D  Our cat, Spooky, and I talked with each other.  She's such a pretty cat.  I really wish my son and I didn't have allergies or she would be an inside cat instead of an outdoor cat.  I KNOW she would like that arrangement too.   Today is a typical day here in Illinois . . . breezy.  I use to have a porch swing on the porch but it spent more time tipped over from the wind that it did upright, so I sold it in my garage sale.   :'(  I miss my swing (and so does Spooky, she thought that was HERS!!  LOL).  My hubby popped out on the porch this morning and we chatted for a few minutes.  He goes to work in the wee morning hours Monday thru Friday so I don't see him usually in the mornings.  Yep, he still looks like the guy I married almost 18 yrs. ago.   ;D

I hope that today is a relaxing day for you all.  Enjoy your day and we'll meet up again tomorrow.

Hi Bucky

My 10 minutes today was a walk around the park next to my house with my very aged terrier. It was a very sedate walk, but very peaceful. There are few people around at 8 am on a Sunday. The trees are looking beautiful, and the moors in the distance absolutely glorius. We really enjoyed our walk.

Hi  :)

Having said I'd join in - I fell at the first hurdle because I'm a wimp when it comes to wind and rain. We had wind and rain yesterday and the day before and my only time outside was between my house, my car and the centre that I work at.

However - today there was sunshine. I walked down to the local park and walked for 3/4 of an hour. (To make up for missed days) I came home with earache (wind induced), a sore jaw on the same side and feeling somwhat dizzy and tight chested but will try to repeat the procedure every day this week, cos I'm not at work as it is half term. The ear/jaw pain has now subsided.

Take care - Scottie  :)
