Shout Out for Mentors . . .

I just want to thank those of you who are mentors to other people.  Showing them the ropes, giving encouragement, support, explaining "how to do" things, etc.

Our family has a friend named Steve, who has taken our almost 14 yr. old son under his wing to teach him about hunting.  My husband isn't "into" hunting, but Steve l-o-v-e-s hunting.  Steve has two grown daughters, but no boys to share his love of hunting with.  Steve has been hunting on our property for 10+ years.  Steve will come get Michael and they will go target practicing with their bows (Steve surprised Michael and gave him a really nice bow last Christmas), go to 3D shoots, etc.  Steve points out to Michael all the supplies he will need for hunting.

Yesterday afternoon Steve and Michael headed out to the blind (which one of Steve's friends had won and didn't need, so Jerry gave it to Michael) for Michaels' first time of bow hunting.  An hour later I get a phone call, "Mom, I got a buck!".  Needless to say, Michael is thrilled!!  Steve is just as thrilled!!  On Michael's first ever attempt at hunting he bags an 8-pt. buck.

This morning Steve calls to make arrangements to come get Michael so they can get some pictures, go get the deer weighed (160 lbs.) and hit up all of Steve's buddies for bragging rights!   ;D  Steve is still beaming.

To all the people who share the talents they have to teach someone else . . . . THANK YOU!!!

Hey Bucky,

I am so excited for your son.

I can not imagine how excited he was. I would imagine his hunting buddy and mentor was also amazed.

There are some men I know that go every year with big guns to Colorado and pay huge fees to hunt there for Elk. I have yet to see them get any.

So your son goes 1st time on your own land, with a bow, and gets an 8 point.   WOW!!!!  :D :D :D

High 5 him from me!!!   kimbo

Oh yeah,

And what a wonderful man to invest time and share his interest with your son. You are so right, community of giving and sharing our lives  with one another can be a very great thing.

This is wonderful and it's showing your son the gift of giving also.  Donating that meat to a facility will stretch to many meals for them.  My husband is a hunter and although I don't eat meat, he and our daughter eat every bit of it.  He makes stews, steaks you name it.  He cooks the liver with onions when I'm gone and I could throw him out of the house.  Yeech.  Lucy
