We have the kong toys that you can put dog biscuits inside, and it keeps the dogs happy for a while working out how to get the treats out 

We also have a product (in UK) called nylabone.  This is a tough, bone shaped toy that is scented with various meat flavours.  It is not harmful to the dog as the dog can't possibly bite off any more than a grain sized piece of the product, so it is safe to leave with the dog when you aren't there (like overnight).  Our dogs love them and they won't mark your furniture or smell
