Just curious what the word is on working out..............

I'm an avid lifter.  I've been working out since I was in high school.  Am I doing myself more harm than good?

Cheryl

Rock,
I say go for it!   Unless it is causing you pain, I can't see why you should stop.   Why not run it by your doctor, just to be sure.

Hi

I agree with Cheryl. Run it past your doc. Unless he/she says otherwise I would keep doing what you feel like doing. I have to force myself to exercise these days because of the discomfort factor and fatigue but I'm sure doing nothing isn't good for a body. I reckon you'd know yourself if you needed to stop - but ask the doc in case.

Take care - Scottie  :)

My joints are feeling better finally because of the Methotrexate.  I asked my doc if I can get back in the gym and she said 'definitely'.  Gonna start off slow with the cardio only since it's been a while and then I'm going to start circuit training again also.  I'm so excited.  :)  Like the others said, just make sure it's okay with your doc but I have a feeling they will say what were all saying that if you can, do it, just don't overdo it.  It's a good thing to keep your flexibility and your joints conditioned as long as you can.  They say it actually helps with arthritis.

Don't know about extreme exercise, like weights, but "regular" exercise is good for us. I am having a hard time exercising and am quickly becoming a couch potato. I don't feel motivated, even though in my head, I know it is good for me.

Rock, I am an "old" lady so I may have a different picture of this issue. My take is that things that cause stress can cause flairs. If you are not feeling the best it might pay to cut back on the weight you are lifting. In other words do your exercises or program but at a lower level in order to cause less stress for your body. The only way you will probably be able to tell is if you seem to feel better with less stressful exercise. AND ask your doc. I would bet that your body will be pretty good about telling you what is too much. Let us know what your doc says. Not everybody does weight lifting. I know some of the people who have been avid long distance runners have had to cut back. The body is really good at telling us enough is enough. Irish ;D

hey i cant even lift my 20 pound baby half the time if yo can do than do it because believe me i sit here an think about all the stuff i could have done before i fell ill and regret everything i took for granted.

maybe working out will help keep you strong and energized but just listen to your body and dont over do it

good luck and let us know how  your doing

Rock...another man here.   My docs keep saying to get more excercise and lose weight.   I find it very difficult due to constant fatique.   I say if you can do it then go for it.   I think many of us are envious that you can do it.
