OT: Such good news from Alex

I figured it was time for me to share something other than my frustration and pain-

I got an email from my son, Alex, in Iraq today, the first since landing there for his first deployment and no job to go to (long story, I vented earlier in the week).  Anyway, they were planning to put him on a field feeding team, which would basically have put him on the roads of Iraq north of Baghdad, taking food to the various outposts.  Instead, he's landed in a warehouse job loading and repackaging shipments for other bases and also working in his specialty, generator repair.

After hearing him sound so disheartened and down in his phone calls first from Kuwait and then Baghdad, I've been so worried and stressed, which has not helped the flare I've been in nor the back pain that I have from an injury years ago.  His email was so upbeat - he even talked about decorating his "room", a shipping container outfitted with air conditioning, US electric  currency and room for 2-3. I feel as if a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders (even though I've been trying very hard to follow Scottie's advice and remind myself that I can no longer fight his battles).

Anyway, I just wanted to share my good news and let those of you who I know have been praying for my son to let you know the prayers are working.  Please keep them coming!

Oh Tracy.....that is wonderful news indeed!

I'm glad that he is doing ok and that his spirit is back up...I will continue to pray that he continues to stay safe and returns home healthy as soon as possible!

Thanks so much for sharing the good news. It's good to hear he's working at his speciality and also sounds as though he may be safer there than on some jobs he could be assigned to. You're going to worry until he comes home safe and sound but hearing him sounding positive must be great.

Great news about Alex, Tracy!  I was very stressed when my son was deployed.  His job was in supply and he was deployed the day prior to the war starting.  I share your concern, but believe Scottie's advice is dead-on.  He's an adult and no amount of worry on your part is going to change anything, except your health.  Take care of yourself.

I am so glad to hear the good news. It is a mother's relief during times like you are going through to receive some uplifting words from your precious son.

Tracy, Now that was certainly a good message to get after a week of "stressing". Glad to hear life is looking up for him. I would think that he would enjoy doing the job for which he was trained. Takes time in the services to get everything up and running I think. Like a huge business only lots more places and things to keep track of. Irish

The good news continued for me after a visit to my pain doctor today.  He feels that the return of all the back symptom may very well be related to my still swollen right knee.  He wants to wait until after the arthroscopy next week and then 2 weeks of recovery to see if  things are better and I'm not favoring the leg, throwing everything out of whack.  He also believes we can avoid the additional surgery for some time, maybe altogether now that we know what took care of the pain the last time it got even worse than it is now. 

In the meantime, he's given me some Voltarin cream to try on my scars, which have become very painful, and said if I feel I need trigger point injections to get me by til after the knee is scoped, just call and he'll have me come right in and get them done.

My rheumie's office also called today (about 2 weeks after I had called there for help, but they did apologize) and given that the brain fog has returned and the other issues, they're moving my April appointment up and will call within a day or two with the new appointment.

We also got another email from Alex, and it is not only 99% definite that he'll be staying in his current job, but his superiors are already talking about promotions.

So, all in all, not a bad day.  My family doctor has done her very best to get me through these past weeks when it seemed there wasn't a specialist to be found, but now that I've spoken with both and come up with a plan for getting things under control, I don't feel quite so frustrated or stressed.

Tracy, This was a great day for you. I do have to tease you a little and tell you that since all the good news came in one day you will have to wait awhile for more of it. 

Really though, it seems like the bad stuff just goes on and on sometimes and we wait so long for something positive. You really got a great big bunch of positive stuff so close together and that is so unusual. Take care now and enjoy the good news feeling. Irish

must be a right load off your mind hopefully this helps your flare and you can settle knowing he is happier and planning decorating, its so good to know things are settling down your end, good to hear something uplifting thankyou for the update
