I am sorry about this everyone, but I am so furious.  >:( I just came back from this new doctor I seen after school today. I went to have him check my leg in the back and why it is hurting when I walk and I haven't done anything to it.

The first thing he said to me, was I was too short, and that was all that was wrong with me. That I needed to be 10 feet tall for how over weight I am. Then he said, I don't believe one bit in Fibromyalgia. I said, well do you believe in sjogren's, and he said only if it has been diagnosed correctly. I said, well what do  you know about it , and he said well , I don't know much, if I suspect it , I send the patient on to someone else , I don't mess with it.

I did still have a urinary tract infection, and we told them I couldn't take bactrim , because it hurt my stomach so bad. Well, he wrote a prescription out and folded it over. In the car , my husband said it was for bactrim.

He basically said, I just need to diet and exercise and I would be fine. I was shocked, and so was my husband.

Needless to say, I will never, ever, go there again. Back to my other doctor. I am running out of options for a general doctor. We live in the country, so we don't have as many to choose from.

My husband said he is going to call them tomorrow and have a talk with them.
I left without him so much as looking at my badly hurting leg, and side of my other foot.
I could have a blood clot for all he knows, but he wouldn't even look at my leg, and ask me nothing about it. It was all me trying to tell him how it hurt. :'(

I am sorry, but I knew I needed to get this out to someone. I do hope you guys are doing well, and certainly hope you don't have to go through this, though I know others have.

Susan, this doctor is an ##@@**!!!!!! Plain and simple.  I don't blame you for being mad and I would never go back to him either.  I am also one of the "shorties" at 5' and was 5'2" at one time.  That doesn't get any better and I have some too many lbs on my 5' frame.  My docs don't talk to me the way your doctor did.  If I mention my unhappiness about my weight, then he might say something.

My wonderful GP tried to tell me I "needed" more exercise when I mentioned I had weak leg muscles.  That's when I reminded him that I did exercise and had no problem doing so.  I swim and I walk.  So, he didn't know how to respond.  I think they just bring up what's next in their list of answers.

This doctor should have checked your leg.   You're right, you could have something really seriously wrong.  What kind of doc is he?  I know, he isn't a good doc whatever his specialty.  Don't go back and I'd try not to let it bother me any longer.  Like I said he's an +++!!  Lucy

Susan, I am so sorry you had to you! I hate doctors that dont know anything and he has TERRIBLE bedside manners. I bet his mother would shoot him if she heard what he said to you! I hope you find something soon and dont stop looking ok, there are GOOD doctors out there, just hard to find and Im sure even farther when u live in the country!

Im so sorry love.

Susan,
I am so so sorry that you had to go through this experience.  Its just incredible to me.  How did some of these drs. get their degree?  No compassion or common sense.  Please don't let his words have any control over you whatsoever.  You are important and know when something hurts!

Very upset,

Hi Susan

I'm feeling angry just reading about your experience. How dare he treat you like that! Does he work in a practice with other doctors? I'd write a really scathing letter to the practice manager I think once you've calmed down enough to write with 'cold anger'!

You're defintely better off with someone else.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Susan, you don't have to apologize to us.  That's what we are here for.  To listen and help if we can.

There is no excuse for this behavior in a doctor.  I too have seen one like this in my lifetime.  I went to the doctor's once with terrible shoulder pain.  It was swollen and really sore to the touch.  This idiot doctor I went to told me there was nothing wrong with my shoulder, that my bra straps were to tight. ::)  I left his office and went straight to ER where it was x-rayed and found to be dislocated.  I told the ER doctor what this other one had told me and I thought he was going to blow a gasket.

So believe me there are jerks out there and then there are the great ones.  You just have to keep looking for the right one.

In the meantime, any time you feel the urge to vent, bring it on.  ;D  We can take it.  :D

Take care and I hope you are feeling better.

Hugs, Pooh

Susan.

I would be angry too, why is it the doctors who think they are god, are usually the worst doctors. Maybe it is because they need to build up their egos. Anyway, I agree with your husband, you need to call the Dr's office and complain, there is no excuse for the way you were treated. The fact he admitted he would send you to another Dr. if you had Sjogren's, tells me he is too lazy, or most likely, does not care about much about his pattens. He is there to collect the money and that is it.

Keep looking, there are good doctors out there.

That really is an outrage. Where in the country are you? Put up a request on the thread here asking for doctor references; maybe someone can recommend a better doctor in your area. I would definitely write a complaint to the regional medical association. As you say, what if you had a clot or something like that? Please get it checked out by someone else.

OOOHHHH!  I could kick people like that.  If you live in the Pacific NW, private message me and we can set up a time to picket his office!!

My shoulder has been hurting since March - I got the put a pad under your bra strap from my rheumatologist.  I couldn't believe it.  I've had physical therapy and even went to a chiropractor and had an injection.  It still hurts!!  I hate it when they just put you off like your some idiot!!

Hey I am with you on being short.  What has that got to do with treating your current symptom.  Whether you have extra weight or not there is still a problem that needs to be treated.  Are you currently on cholestrol or blood pressure lowering medication.  My brother has been having severe leg cramps and was told that there was no problem.  He has gone to another doctor to be looked at and was told this can be a serious side effect of both drugs.  If not addressed it can cause muscle damage.  Currently they are taking him off of both drugs and running blood test and re-evaluating.  The new doctor will try another medication once a complete evalutaion is done.  My Mom also had severe leg pain when on Lipitor and had to get off of the medication.

Please find another doctor who will listen.  Extra weight should not be the quick assumption as the root of the problem.  I have been lucky to have an internist who gentle encourages me to exercise and give suggestions on ways to change the diet.  He has never ignored my symptoms.  He admitted that he did not know a lot about SJS but listens to all I know and readily works with my other doctors .  I hope and pray you will find someone who will give you the proper care.  Rule out other causes before assuming it is a weight only issue.

Hi Susan, Well, this happens to most of us at one time or another and sometimes more than once. It seems it was time for you to see another Jerk!!!! I am sorry that you had to go through this. I can just imagine how you felt having a sore leg and many questions and then being treated like that.

Also, on the medication thing---I keep thinking that I must remember to always check the prescription before I leave the office because the docs just don't listen. It makes so much work to have to call them back. Will you take the bactrim??? I hope you are taking it with food. I usually got a stomach ache from that also. Just really a pain in the gut.

Hope your hubby has good luck tomorrow.Tell him to try to talk to the administrator of that clinic. If it is a smaller office than he may have to talk to the doctor himself. Good luck. Irish ;D

I am so sorry that you were treated this way by a medical professional.  This doctor is a disgrace to the medical community.  I hope you can find a GP who has ears that work!

koprowsk

Tell him you would be happy to refer him to the PACE program at UC San Diego.  It is a program designed to diagnose and treat incompetent physicians (they use the term dyscompetent).  It is a real program and doctors are referred to it on a regular basis.  Since he cannot help you, then least you can do is assist him in becoming a competent doctor (or they can assist him in having his license removed).  The program actually has a pretty good success rate.

I hope you are able to find another doctor.  I think part of his problem is ignorance, which shows in his attitude.

Oh Susan,

This "doctor" should not be around a patient, overweight or not; no one should have to deal with that crap, ever!

I realize that you're limited to just a few in your area, but can you see another physician?  Can you travel to another town to see a different one?

Please hang in there, and don't let that jerk put any doubt in your mind about your symptoms.
