We live in just off the M4 corridor and I was wondering if any one here can post or email to me their recommendations for and experiences of, Rheumatologists and pain management treatment from the NHS or private Dr's and Consultants in this part of the UK?
I want my wife to see one that Sjs sufferers believe knows how to treat their problems, not just the nearest Rheumatologists (unless he is recommend that is) in Oxford.  She is really suffering at the moment and we don't know what to do.  Our GP is clueless on treatment for the pain as all his prescriptions have failed to have any FX and he has run out of ideas.

Thanks TH

I'm sorry TH

I don't live anywhere near your area. I just wondered if you'd tried contacting the British Sjögren's Syndrome Association as they may be able to give lists of specialists in your area.

It's certainly not uncommon for GPs to be really unfamiliar with it.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi TH

I know it is not very near to where you live (or me either!)  but Dr Julius who posts on this site, recommended Dr Simon Bowman at the Birmingham University Hospital. If you google him, you should find some of his reseatch papers.

Interestingly, due to a set of recent symptoms, I joined the BSSA group yesterday, so that I could get a free place at their conference in Birmingham on 11 October. (Nonmember price £15). There will be 7 or 8 different medics, speaking about different aspects (or parts of the body) affected by Sjogrens. Dr Bowman is one of them. There will also be two Q and A sessions for patients, so it might be a good place to go.  I will start a thread to tell other Brits about this. It could be just what we need.

Thanks for the replies so far. If any one can help, as requested, later that would be fantastic, I do believe that there are not too many Dr's that seem to genuinely understand Sjs so if one can be found SHOUT about it.

It will be interesting to see if our Oxford based Consultant will be attending the Conference.

I will mention this to my wife but I don't imagine she will be so keen on going herself, good call on the BSSA.  Thanks again
