I'm searching for scientific articles on using cannabis (medical marijuana) as an anti-inflammatory
in autoimmune conditions, especially in RA.
My rheumatologist has asked me to bring this information to my next appointment since he does not know much on the topic and I am requesting he write me a letter of recommendation for MM. He needs me to convice him it can actually be theraperutic and not just "cover up" symptoms.  ::)
So far I have found articles like this this one, but I need one from a more recent year:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20191092
I'd appreciate it if any of you can suggest more recent articles on this topic.
Thanks!  :)

Well, I did a little searching and I did find articles that state that CBD oil is a good anti-inflammatory as is the regular cannabis with the THC. One article even said that the CRP is even decreased with CBD oil and Rheumatoid Arthritis pain is decreased also.

Then  found that the chronic pain of neurodegenerative diseases is helped with THC. Then problem way these articles did not have any doctors or scientific magazines listed. I did start a search that might help you but I was to tired to continue. Try googling  scientific studies CDB and THC universities USA. Something like this will bring up articles researched and maybe proven by university professors doing research.

You can get specific and shorten the search words and use John Hopkins, etc. i.e.. Also, might want to do a search that says top research universities usa. You should get a list of these universities who do a lot of research and then be able to be more specific on your university searches. Also, do a search on top research drug research magazines, etc. You can just do all sorts of word searches and you will be able to follow the trail of what you are looking for.

Just to let you know, you seldom find what you are looking for the first 15 minutes. It does take time to follow up on this info and take notes so that you keep the words that can help you with further searching. Good luck. Irish

Many thanks for the tips Irish!  :)

I ended up finding many studies on the topic.

Not scientific, but rather my personal experience:

Cannabid thc and cbd compounds are both supposed to be anti inflammatory.
I did a trial of a good quality cbd source and found it mildly beneficial (it is a definite mood booster) ... except I am taking Botox for chronic migraines and the cbd seemed to interfere with the Botox somehow and my migraines came back.

I also did a trial of MM (legal here in New York) after jumping through all the hoops to get it prescribed.
It certainly helped on the days I was taking it for help with chronic pain. There also seemed to be a marked anti inflammatory effect 1-2 days after I used it. (I also had a "pot hangover" for those days.)

MM will make your eyes drier. Not a lot drier, but I noticed it for sure.
Even though it was overall beneficial, a found that I needed the thc AND cbd components to have a real effect on inflammation. However, if I took MM in the morning I was stoned and useless for anything the entire rest of the day. Certainly I did not feel safe to drive.

I suppose if your pain is so bad you aren't doing anything anyway, then this might not matter so much. For me, it is a deal breaker.

End result of my personal experiment is that I am not using the cbd oil or MM therapeutically.

Thanks for your response Gorn.
Did the CBD also worsen eye dryness or MM in oil form?

Joe S.

I use CBD caps to help with pain and other issues. I have tried MM once. It was a strong dose and I did not expect the hallucination. It lowered my BP and reduced my pain. The effect lasted for about a week. Since i have picked up several magazines that have promoted MM with interesting articles. Many friends have had success with it but I have to find where I can get a script for it. The VA as a federal agency will not Rx it until it is changed from a class one.

Thanks Joe, do the CBD caps affect dryness in any way?
