My doctor decided my stomach pain is IBS and subscribed Dicyclomine 10mg. Egads,,,I hate to add another pill to my long list of daily meds! I have a little problem with diarrhea but most of my problem is upper stomach pain, bloating and pressure. He also told me to stop taking my health food store brand of probiotics and take Align.

Anyone else take Dicyclomine? There are a lot of side effects listed - including that it's addicting. It has me worried.

Im just curious if you have ever been diagnosed with Reflux or GERD? I have some IBS but also have the GERD and will get stomach upset, pain, bloating, heartburn, nausea and the Omeprazole helps me. Also, I have to admit that I have wondered how people with autoimmune disease can tolerate the flax seed pills. They contain oil ad the seed can really aggravate a persons GI tract. Might be worth holding the flaxseed for awhile and see what happens. Might also make just change at once (like changing to Align) so that you know for sure which thing is the culprit. Good luck with this. Irish

Hi Irish. Yes, I've have GERD for years and take a medication called Dexilant. It's a miracle for me! I think I'll try dropping the flaxseed for awhile. Thanks for the suggestion.

Is that the same thing as Bentyl?? I think I used to take it. It was very constipating for me.

My bloating turned out to be from sensitivity to gluten and dairy and at times from gastroparesis.
All these are common with SS.
Have you checked them out?

Yes jazzlover, it's the same as Bentyl. My doctor warned about constipation so I'm trying to up my fiber. Plus instead of taking it three times a day I'm only taking it once until I see how my body reacts. Sharon, I asked him about gluten and he didn't seem concerned about it. I guess it's just one day at a time until I see if there's any relief.

My doctors don't recognize the gluten issue either,
but I get digestion issues every time I try to introduce the gluten back into my diet.

A medication that helped me tremendously with IBS pain and symptoms in the past was Domperidone.

What I thought was IBS turned out to be SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth).

The test for SIBO is easy, because the presence of the bacteria shows up in your breath.

I had terrible pain, gas, bloating and episodes of explosive diarrhea.

I was able to help the problem by following the FODMAP protocol, and then eliminating gluten and dairy.  But only to a point.  It seems that the bacteria interacts with many foods to cause IBS-D type symptoms.

NOW that I was treated for SIBO (yes there is a treatment..special antibiotics get rid of the bacteria) I no longer have any of the symptoms and I can eat everything, even beans.  Which is amazing.

You might mention SIBO and the test.  Just a thought.

-- also be aware that it can affect your brain over time. It's an cholenergic drug? Maybe Irish can shed light on that one. She may even know how to spell it! :)
