Auto Immune rashes

So, has anyone ever had an auto immune rash on their face???

I was at the Dermatologist today to get a growth removed and asked her to look at these splotches I get on my forehead. She said she thought it was auto immune and asked if I'd had an ANA run. I told her I had other auto immune diseases. So, I have to ask the new rheumy when I see him. I try my best to avoid gluten and dairy and had some tortellini last night. It's so hard sometimes, so I caved. The rash comes and goes. It's also on my cheeks, by the side of my nose as well.

I have this too. It just started in July. My dermatologist is convinced it is lupus. I'm waiting for my rheumy appt. My rash is almost annular in appearance and has slight scale as it fades. It seems that as soon as the rash starts to fade in one area of my face, it appears somewhere else (still on face). It is so frustrating!

Autoimmune rashes are extremely common no matter which autoimmune disease you have. Not all facial rashes are lupus though. Have you had a Double Stranded DNA blood test done. This is one blood test I have done occasionally as my immunologist is waiting for me to convert to a lupus diagnosis also. I will get some facial redness but no rashes on my face lately.

I am on daily prednisone and monthly IVIG so that may keep things under control for now. Any time you get a rash any where on your body always assume that it could be autoimmune in nature. If they don't last long and become bad they don't always need treatment. However, anyone with an autoimmune disease should find themselves a dermatologist so that when thing get hard to control or questionable you will be able to get good treatment and advice. Most other doctors are not real knowledgeable about rashes. Good luck. Irish

KySjogirl, I hope you don't have lupus......... Sometimes it seems like auto immune diseases like to run in pairs.

Irish, I know they did a double stranded DNA test when all this first started about 8 years ago. It was negative but my ANA was positive 1:160, which is a little weak. It went negative after 6 months of prednisone treatment. I am no longer on prednisone. It shoots my blood sugar up.

I get those from gluten. It's on  my cheeks.
