Hi,

I don't know if this is the correct location to post something like this, but I've been doing a lot of research on upcoming treatments and I'm reading a lot about FMT. I know the idea sounds somewhat icky, but it seems to be promising. I was wondering if anyone has looked into this?

Here's an article about it reversing dry eye.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29438346

There are many more articles discussing the connection between autoimmune diseases and gut micro-organisms.

Also if there is a more appropriate place to post treatment options, please let me know :).

Do you have any more information on this?

I just read a little of this. I know there is no way I would do any kind of thing like this. The eye is so close to the brain and it would not take much for any little microcosm of something or other to crawl its way to the brain. Thanks for posting it though. Irish

The abstract is not talking about putting fecal matter ON the eye.  It is transferred into the intestine.  Our immune system is influenced by our gut microflora.

Shakenbake, thank you for this! My rheumatologist (I have RA, PsA, OA) told me that I had Sjogren's a few years ago but I didn't pay much attention because he said there was no sense in doing the tests. I've had dry eyes forever, the joint pain is explained by the arthritis, and he didn't know why I was having overwhelming fatigue!

In February I had a little eye surgery and the surgeon put me on Augmentin. About the time I finished the Augmentin, my mouth went completely dry, I had a huge abscess on my tongue, and thrush! My first Sjogren's flare which hasn't stopped yet. Now I think I have a reason for it - the antibiotics.

I think FMT is still experimental and I don't think any of the probiotics on the market have a great diversity of micro-organisms (they have a large number of a few, I think), even if there are any that survive the stomach acid. Does anyone have a solution for the unwanted effects of antibiotics? If this article is true, I think we need one. I read the full version of the article, it sounds good to me. (You can get to the full version from the abstract and it is free.)
