"According to Fromm et al, some patients may present with pretrigeminal neuralgia syndrome for a period of weeks or even years before developing the customary symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia. [15] They complain of an unrelenting sinus pain or toothache lasting for hours, triggered by moving the jaw or drinking fluids. Not surprisingly, they first seek dental care. Some find benefit from baclofen or carbamazepine."

I hope this help you.

I have ATN

In my case, I had an inexperienced dentist create repeated trauma in the same immediate area.

One day, I got horrible pain that would not abate. It was not electrical. More a boring , deep pressure ...hard to describe. Very painful. Usually a 9 or 10. Often nauseous. I pulled a perfectly good tooth out of desperation. Did not help. I saw an oral surgeon who was also an MD. He told me to see a neurologist as I had nerve damage. Bottom line...mine was caused over a relatively short period of time due to repeated trauma by a dentist.
Five years ago. I still use a very expensive compounded cream to treat it. I pick it up tomorrow. $200.
Been using it for five years. I believe I should of sued. I waited too long. I always thought it would go away. It?s gotten better...but still haunts me BADLY.

PS a few lessons...always go to a very experienced dentist. If you suspect something is ?off? speak up. Consider a second opinion. If you think you?ve been the victim of medical malpractice, get a consult with an attorney immediately.
SLE, Sj.  Syndrome, IC, Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia, ITP (low platelets)... Various meds and lots of vitamins. Trying to eat healthy; seems to help a little.
