Testosterone reversing dry eye - update

This is a golden oldie study explaining the benefit of testosterone for our condition so well.

The article is a bit outdated as restatis/cyclosporine is already available, but nevertheless very informative: http://articles.latimes.com/1999/may/31/health/he-42741

Personally, I can vouch for this method. Low dose testosterone has worked wonders for me. However, now that I've hit menopause, I'd need to increase the dosage (fear of masculinization) - or add estrogens to the mix.

Interesting article,

You may want to check out the following related articles... I pulled a few discussion items from them for my next Ophthalmologist visit.

From browsing the first link, it sounds like there is a lot I haven't actually tried that is available for dry-eye sufferers...

Hi Mark,

Just when I thought I tried everything out there! Your links contain some unique recommendations, some of which I've never heard of, other of which I've already tried (and quit due to side effects), some of which I still use.

To beat this disease you have to become your own guinea pig  ;D ;D ;D

So fearlessly I tried testosterone cream on my eyelids last night and - lo and behold - did wake up with slightly watery eyes this morning. What a blessing this life can be...

What testosterone cream did you use and where can it be purchased? Thanks!

Hi Deborah,

I use 1% bio-identical testosterone cream prescribed by a naturopath.

Maybe if the good effects continue I could start wearing eye contact lenses again?

Hi Glad to hear it seems to have helped!

Being a young man, I wonder if it does much for me.  My Testosterone levels were pretty healthy at last check. But maybe it works for another reason I am not knowledgeable about.  Anyways... I'll ask about getting some to try as well.

Thanks again for the information!

You're welcome!

Mind you, be careful not to use too much. This morning I also applied some on my eyelids only later to find my eyes tearing so much make up was running down my face...
For now I guess 1x daily application before sleep - especially in conjunction with taking pilocarpine - is enough.

Update after 8 days of consecutive use:

I can't believe how well this simple treatment is working! Besides waking up with moist eyes, it also keeps irritation/burning sensation at bay during the day. Not even been bothered by air-conditioning! Not used a single eye drops even once...

A miracle!
