Oh doctors have no sense of humor, except perhaps with other doctors.

The REASON for the rigid definition of Sjogren's (anti-autobodies in a certain proportion, lip biopsy, etc)  is for the purposes of RESEARCH.  Research can only be carried out if the subjects have equal diagnostic markers. 

For TREATMENT, as far as I know, there is no requirement based on testing.  Perhaps some insurance companies will not pay for the related medication, without the diagnostic testing, but I don't think doctors are barred from treating with any medication, even without the positive results of tests.

Am I wrong?  Others will know.
