Failed bone integration of hip prothesis, surgery #3 sjs related?

Hi y'all! Sorry I haven't talked in a while, but I do check in everyday to read messages!
For the past nine month I have been recovering from first a total right hip replacement followed three month later with a partial revision. Now I'm scheduled on June 14 to have a total revision on the same hip only ten month since original surgery and 6 month after revision. I'm wondering if sjogren's can cause failed bone growth around the stem in the femur?
My story goes like this: August 16th I opted for a total hip replacement after arthroscopy a year earlier showed the cartillage was pretty much shot in the right hip. I had done pt and steroids to no avail. Original diagnosis was mild osteoarthritis on MRI. When the surgeon went in to perform replacement he discovered my joint was pretty much end stage and that it was a good thing I opted to replace. So much for MRI's!
I recovered very quickly, but after only two weeks deteriorated just as quickly with mid thigh pain and could not walk. After 6 weeks of non bearing on walker did not improve it was decided to go back in for hardware loosening since the symptoms were typical of stem loosening eventhough he could find no evidence on plain xray, but thought cup had slipped.
So, in for revision, cup replaced, extra screw put in, and he janked fiercly on the stem which did not budge, so he left it. 8 weeks non weight bearing on walker. Recovery went well and started pt. Did fine, then went downhill. Did neuclear bone scan which showed stem loosening and failure of bone integration. Now it's visible on plain xray! So now surgery #3 and everything has to be replaced including stem. I could just cry. Back to day one for the third time! More difficult recovery depending how difficult it is to pull out the stem, it's cementless.
I'm worried that something in my autoimmune disease is causing my femur to not accept the stem by not growing bone around it! I do not have osteoperosis and have very strong bones. I get regular bone scans done every two years and pass with flying colors! I see my rheumatologist in July and she says we could talk about fossomax, as I asked, and see if that may help the bone growth.
I don't know what I will do if it fails again! My left hip is failing rapidly, but refuse to have it replaced until the right one is fixed.
I have a very good surgeon at Baylor who does hip replacements successfully all the time. I'm his first failure case!
Anyone have any ideas?

I do not know but I guess it would not surprise me if our immune system would refuse to accept new hardware. I have been lucky so far, but am having a lot of back pain and refuse to have any surgery if I can avoid it. This decision is made because of autoimmume disease, long term prednisone therapy pls immune deficiency with high propensity of infections with many allergies to antibiotics. I just feel that a major event like that would kill me off.

I hope that they can get you fixed cause there is nothin worse than having to deal with an ongoing issue. Was there was a reason why they did the cementless procedure?  good luck. Irish

I know the my malfunctioning immune systems rejects medications that can help, infusions of IgG which  my immune system desperately needs, and also attacks the organs/systems of my body.

Constant inflammation from attacks by our Immune System weaken our tissues, so that ligaments and tendons tear more easily, for example.

My knees and even my shoulders need replacement.  Not only are those surgeries brutal, but I fear my body making a mess out of integrating the replacement into my body.

I wish I knew how to comfort you.  You are undergoing a trial and I wish you strength and acceptance.

If that is the case it would explain the continued problem with my left hip and leg. They could not repair my hip so it pops in and out. I have a rod bolted into my leg from my hip to my knee and the bone is in pain if I move wrong. I guess an immune disorder could effect healing.

I don't know either but suspect it could be factor.  Nevertheless, I have had two very successful dental implants and I do have osteoporosis.  The idea of implant failure was scary and I did worry but felt I had to try it.  At seems there are a lot more questions then answers.  So frustrating!

Hi DarleneB, thank you for your response. I take vit D every other day, otherwise I test too high for this.
My surgeon said again he has no idea why the stem did not integrate with the bone. He said I have very good bone stock. The surgeon is planning to use a bigger blade for the stem, so hopefully that will help.
Irish, my stem is a pressfit instead of cement, most surgeons now go that route. Both have their pros and cons.
