Sore, dry, splitting lips

Hi all!

I use Evoxac, drink lots of fluids and slather on lip balm every day.  But Help!!  My lips are so dry and none of this is working!  My skin is split on my bottom lip and I'm having trouble getting it to heal.😞

The dryness is obviously on the inside because it doesn't matter what I put on them.  My saliva level hasn't been too bad.  I know the dry cold weather contributes.  I run a humidifier constantly.

Any tricks or ideas for healing and more comfort?  I figure someone has something good up their sleeve.😉

OH Kathy, I feel for you...and with you.
    The only solution I use is a product no longer being made.  You are right...your lips are dry.  I used carmex and blistex for years....OC like, year round.  Before I was dxed, I finally realize, my lips weren't chapped.  Anyway..i use an aloe vera product:
new ones are: Forever Aloe Vera Lip Balm (got at Amazon) and it's best next to the Aloe Lip Care by Body Shop...discontinued.  Actually they said they are redoing it.  Anyway other is Aloe Lip Care.  Will use, but not as good as Forever.

Also, I keep a tube (Rx) Nystatin Cream (given to me by my DDS) for fungus in corners of mouth.  I argued with her when she said that's what it was.  The treatment was miraculous.  Once the fungus appears, it takes me a few days to realize it's back.  Takes 3 to 4 days to get it eliminated.

Don't use anything with the additives for chapped lips.  No petroleum, no fragrances, no anesthetic properties.  Just remember..JUST AS YOU SAID:  DRY.....not chapped.

I found Burts Bees lipbalm useful

Can't recall what's in the Burt's Bees balm  I can't tolerate.  It has fragrances too.  I used this back in the years I was using carmex and blistex before I realized what my real lip condition was.

I use Vaseline on my lips day and night and it does help.

There is another approach, especially if the cracks are in the corners. They may be caused by Vitamin B deficiency. It may be worth it to try a Vitamin B supplement , or if you already take Vitamin B, try increasing the dose for a short time.

I like the Burt's Bees tinted lip shimmer. It saves having it find a lipstick for colour, and has peppermint rather than menthol so doesn't burn as badly when the lips are nearly raw. At night I have a coconut oil/beeswax/hemp oil combo that seems to work well for me.

Thanks for your insights!  I've started using antifungal cream on my lips in case it is yeast and I do have some Burt's Bees lip balm.  I may go to Amazon and try the Aloe Vera products.

Also I started taking extra B12 and L-lysine.

I get the sore chapped and split lips that bleed and they do hurt. I have used all sorts of things over the years and I had forgotten about this cream until recently.

I was desperate one time and I had a new tube of cream for hemorrhoids. This was several years ago and I had bought this tube of hemorrhoid cream (at Walmarts) that had a cream base and 1% hydrocortisone in it. I was so surprised when I used it a couple of times and the next morning my lips were 50% better. It isn't good to use cortisone on the lips long periods of time but a couple of times for a couple of days should probably be ok is my thinking. Weird but it worked. Guess I better buy some more. I have used carmex myself for years, but then I realized "camphor" is one of the ingredients and that's a drying agent.

I have tried many lip moisturizers over the years with varying results, but I have found what works for me.  In desperation one night I coated my dry peeling lips with eye serum (Neutrogena hydro boost gel cream -  in a little aqua tube,) followed by Aquaphor for "slickness."  My lips were soft the following morning.  6 months later, I am still using this combination 2 or 3 times a day, and I can even apply lipstick without that cracked look. 

Other similar products may work just as well, but I'm sticking with these brands.  I hope the suggestion helps someone else!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!  I went out a couple of days ago and bought the eye serum as you suggested.  I am so excited because my lips are responding to it just like you said.  They are softer and not peeling away.  I have missed wearing lipstick but I think now I can wear it. Thanks again.

I find rosehip lip balm helps my lips.

I also use rosehip lipstick.

I've an aloe vera plant.  May rub some on at night to see how it goes.
