I've had this since my symptoms started 3 months ago but never cared to ask. I just put it down as another one of those things.
I don't get hungry anymore, I can go all day without food and I still don't feel hungry. I only eat now because I know I'll die if I don't. The food still tastes good when I eat it but I hunger to feel hungry again. :)

Can anyone explain this or does anyone have the same thing?

Thx in advance,

This happens to me quite often.  I will go for a while without ever feeling hungry and then go for a while being absolutely hungry all the time.  I believe it has to do with my gastrointestinal symptoms with Primary SJS.  I see you have stomach issues.  I find I am a lot less hungry when I feel everything is slowing down in my body and I then I become constipated.  Are you on any type of medicine that states it will decrease appetite?  That happened to me, too.

Same here: No appetite.
No explanation. Yet.
I had some gastro tests done because of this symptom and other gastro symptoms.
Still waiting for the results.

Hi all,

@Judie P: Glad to see I'm not the only one, but my stomach is now fine(just forgot to update since it got better after the use of prednisone). This doesn't come and go it always is, it hasn't changed since this started. I did have constipation but that was fixed with the stomach.

@Sharon: That's exactly it, I saw my dr today and asked him but he couldn't answer. I'm sourcing another doctor after the new year so I might have it checked in the mean time.

I never got an answer from a doctor, either.  I would be curious what your doctor says.  Could we have autonomic neuropathy that is undiagnosed?

JudieP I understand completely, any answer would be appreciated, heck I'd even start with ideas.

Same problem here. It really annoys me because I really used to love food. I still enjoy the taste but it is just not the same without any sense of hunger.

This happened very suddenly for one week in September 2015. I was very perplexed and then relieved when my sense of hunger came back. Two months later it disappeared for good, and 2-3 months after that full block SS symptoms started.

I have also been diagnosed with chronic non specific gastritis.

Sharon

This must be a SS symptom because my gastro tests are fine
and 20mg Prednisone actually helped me get some of my appetite back.

This is usually the combination of appetite aversion and lack of appetite from chronic disease. It is very common in people with long standing health problems.

I suffer from this much of the time. I normally have been a very good eater and was able to eat almost anything and enjoy it. I have gotten so I look forward to a meal I might plan to make and when the time comes I can't stand the thought of that particular food. I end up eating a lot of cold cereal as that is what settles the best.

When my hubby was alive I would make supper, meat, potato, vegetables, etc and by the time the food was cooked I could not eat it. I have even had food in my mouth chewing and had to leave the room to spit it out. I just can't stand the taste or smell. I have the worst time with meat. Many times I do better to eat out but that is even tricky. I can eat some French fries but not the sandwich.

A lot of times the fat is also something that turns us off. I have also seen patients lose interest in food for long periods of time and go through weight loss. This can be significant as the loss of weight and nutrients can lead to further health issues. People with these problems would do well to be referred to a dietician who can help sort out what nutrients are needed and what foods would work well for the individual. Sometimes it works better to eat smaller amounts of food many times a day. Many times people have been known to eat the custards that are made for jr foods for babies. This is has a good flavor that satisifies a need.

We have to make ourselves eat these smaller amounts of food in order to stay nourished and the advice of dietary is very helpful. Good luck. Irish

Sometimes I wish I had no appetite :).  But seriously, my father in law is 101 and has lost his appetite. I don't know the name of it, but his doctor put him on a medicine they give cancer patients that increases his appetite. He was complaining yesterday that his pants were getting too tight so I guess it's working.

The only med I've heard of that increases appetite in chronic illnesses is medical cannabis.

My mother-in-law has this. She has a problem with her adrenal glands. You need to get it checked, because if you have it your body is not processing nutrients or medications correctly. Sudden weakness, dizziness, nausea and body aches come out of nowhere. Then you start losing weight, and not in a good way. Check for that!

It would not surprise me if there are certain antidepressants that can be used. I would have to research this. However, I have had reason to do searches on symptoms of low serotonin this past week. Some friends having health issues and they don't understand what serotonin is and what it does.

The brain chemicals are so involved in so many body functions. You might want to ask your doc about this. Irish

@Meow: Thank you, I'll look into it. From what I've read a lot of the adrenal gland problems seem to match my symptoms. Will def look into it some more.

@Irish: I'll ask my psych next time I see him. I would love t9 feel hungry again.
The brain chemicals are heavily involved. I'm finding my state of mind goes up and down with my sickness or visa versa, I don't know which yet.

Feeling lousy day after day sort of puts us on a downward spiral to develop low serotonin and resulting depression. The need for antidepressants really does increase in relation to the length and severity of our illness.

I am going to say this again just because it really upsets me..... I hate the word depression used to identify "depression". I think it is such a negative name and has such bad history over the years. It is a real disease caused by lower chemicals in the brain. This can be caused by epinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, etc and the antidepressants replace these chemicals. Every antidepressant increases different brain chemicals and in different amounts. You can find this by reading the long drug information on sites such as drugs.com. Irish
