I'm out of town visiting relatives, to return tomorrow. Three days before we left, I had weird soreness in my gums, top teeth, back right. I have a cleaning and check up June 3.

Just a small area is sore.   Mostly between back two molars. I kept on flossing and noticed food getting stuck there easily.  So, after I flossed one day, I used my water pic and discovered more food in there! And, it bled like crazy. Then, I put some diluted peroxide.  In the past, if I ever have a gum issue, I used peroxide and in one or two days, the discomfort is gone.

While on our trip, I have carefully brushed and flossed the area.i used the water pic one or two more times right before we left. Plus the extra attention afterwards.   It seem to be getting better.

Yesterday, it started hurting again.  I hadn't used the water pic for at least two days...just extra brushing and floss.

So, I got a water pic and cleaned and it bled like crazy and hurts like heck today.  Today, I had to take Aleve gel for the pain.  I am rinsing with warm water and salt.  This helps a little.  Using oral gel now and then.

I looked in the mirror and I can't see anything abnormal.  It is just a very small area in my gums...upper area and the pain seems to mostly be between two teeth in the back. I would now say it is very sore.

Does anyone have a clue what this is? I think the dentist is on vacation for a few days too!!!

SLE, Sj.  Syndrome, IC, Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia, ITP (low platelets)... Various meds and lots of vitamins. Trying to eat healthy; seems to help a little.

My guess is, that maybe you have gotten an infection in that area, maybe from all of the food that was lodged up there.  In that case, you will need antibiotics.  You definitely do not want periodontal disease.  My sister had it, and she lost all of her teeth.

It could also be that you have a cavity that has formed in on the insides of one of the molars or up near the gum line.

My gums can bleed a lot when I use my Sonicare electric toothbrush.  My hygienist says that I am traumatizing my gums, and to back off on being forceful with it, and just let it do its job.

in short - you need to see a dentist. Especially since you keep finding all that food jammed up there and are starting to have pain. Does your regular dentist have a backup?

Could be anything from a gum infection to a tooth starting to abcess. I personally don't mess around with any possibility of dental infections - been there done that and never will go there again (one turned into severe facial cellulitis).

As for topical pain relief for a tooth or gumline, I find oil of cloves helpful (available upon request behind pharmacy counter). A tiny bit goes a long way. It also has a numbing affect.

Over the years I have had this on and off around various teeth my dentist informs me to brush more often but that just makes it more sore and I find myself sensitive to too much toothpaste use. What I have found useful is Chlorhexadine mouthwash (Corsodyl in the UK) this helps to prevent and treat.
Having also seen Dental Consultants I have been told sore patches around teeth and mouth is not unusual with Sjogrens.
