Steroid shot in hand, no help for finger joint

My left ring finger has been swollen and painful for months. It took a while to see the orthopedist. Today he said that the tendon in my palm, at the base of my finger, was filled with fluid. He gave me a shot which was quite painful right up until I felt something twist or release -- he thinks there was scar tissue on the tendon and that he hit it, he said he actually heard it pop.

He did not end up shooting up my joint just above where my rings go. He did a sonogram and said there is significant arthritis on both sides and the shot would only help with the pain. I now have to tell my hubby that my wedding ring is permanently staying on my right hand, where it's been for months. Fortunately, after 12 years of marriage and of me being ill, he is still in love with me.

FYI he strongly suggested paraffin treatments for the pain in my hands. Does anyone have a machine that you like?

Maybe it will bring some relief in a day or two. Cortisone shots usually last about 12 days if I remember correctly. Irish

Irish, Thanks. The finger joint is more mobile today so I am hopeful.
