A few nights ago my son who lives with me called me to come outside. He told me to take a deep breath. He said, do you smell that? Yes, I smelled it but what was it---smelled also like alfalfa but knew it was too late this year for hay making.

He told me it had frosted the night before and it was the smell of the crops drying out. Man, I had not paid any attention before and I have lived out here since late 70's. Son takes after his father when it comes to the land and crops. We don't farm, but in-laws did and many other relatives. We are tied to the land and the country. The moons have been just awesome and Fall was hubby's favorite time of year.

So, just for the heck of it on a clear crisp night go outside and see if you find some new interesting smells that the land sends forth for us to enjoy. Even in town there are new smells in the Fall. Irish

Irish,

Thanks for reminding us that in spite of health problems that it only takes a minute to connect with nature and enjoy the scents in the air as the season changes.

We get so locked in on the bad things but it only takes a brief moment to find something to enjoy.

I know I need a gentle reminder to take time to enjoy the simple, natural things!

And don't forget to look up to see the wonders of the beautiful stars.

I love the low-fog and damp-earth smells we had today after our first rain of months of dry weather.

Irish, you are an inspiration!!!  You always have such a wonderful positive attitude despite many difficult circumstances in your life.  I thank you, too, for all your enlightenment on our issues of Sjogrens, etc.  If I ever saw you in person, I'd love to give you a great big thank you hug!!

Thank you Irish.

Last evening, took a walk with neighbor with granddaughter on her bike.
They have a 'fire pit'.. loaded it with dry twigs.
Oh my did we have fun.
Saw the moon 1st crescent sitting low just above the trees.
Watched the bats fluttering on their hunt for mosquitoes.. go bats!
(Gosh time for new eyeglass exam again?)

Must have gotten perhaps a few acorns into the mix.. a few surprise mini explosive snaps. LOL
Lilly went off to find more acorns..prancing, dancing, twirling across the lawn.

Neighbor was really into managing the flames/fire.. "Hey is that a fertility offering"
La mujer del fuego (Fire Woman) .. so we did a quick "booty dance".. she is Slavic and loved it..lol.

.. a fun evening.

Sounds like a great evening and wish I had been there. Fall is here in full force that is for sure. Irish

We have a lot of aspen, poplar, birch and willow trees. The smell of the leaves drying and falling combined with the pines makes it the best aromatherapy. We also live in the country so we get a huge star show every night, as long as it is clear. With our cold temps they shine so bright.

Today is sunny and very crisp and windy with blue sky and some white clouds moving rapidly across the sky. The farmers are out picking the corn and it will surely freeze tonight. I will have to hide my plants out of the cold so they don't freeze. My hubby would be out plowing and loving the weather and every minute of harvest. Fall was his favorite season as it is mine. Enjoy these days as they are just an inspiration and the night smells are so good. Irish

After weeks of no rain.. finally yesterday it arrived. Yeah. The ground was so dry.

It was a 'balmy' 54 degrees this morning. Still have windows open at the home.

The sun dappling and dancing on the golds, reds and greens of the leaves.
Just had to get out and play a bit.. took some photos of what will be the last of my perenial blooms.

Love my battery operated tools..lol.
Out of the box on time to trim.. but, I wacked back the Forsythia on the side, really want to put some other 'treasures' I have in between them.. two Lillac bushes..

DH is out on his motorcycle and took a photo of a seagull at the shore.

Need to call the AG Society, our Ash trees have been distressed and the Asian beetle has made its way to NJ. "There are now 23 states and two Canadian provinces that have the beetle, which has killed tens of millions of ash trees."  The lawn service think our ash has the beetle.
So far looks to be two and some of the neighbors.

Love the crisp, clean air.. pot of homemade ham and bean soup is on the stove.

I'll have to drive up a way and see if the horses are getting 'fuzzy'.. lol.
