So, I'm going to start plaquenil. What time of day does everyone take it? It takes three months to work, right? How soon did side effects start, if any? Thanks in advance!

It can start working a lot faster. I personally don't know if it matters, but I take my 400 mg in the morning.

Crystal - I take mine in the morning or mid-day with a meal.  It took almost six months to notice a positive change for me but I know others noticed a positive difference much sooner.  Hope it takes less time for you to notice improvements.

For me, personally, and this is only my personal opinion...I did better taking it with a meal.  I had stomach issues - upset stomach, gi pain when I did not take it with a meal.

Morning after food is when I take all of mine and it took almost 6 months to fully make difference.

I have been on Plaquenil 4 years now

I noticed it was helping after 4months.

I take my in split doses, 200mg in am and 200mg in pm...with food.

No side effects .

I've been taking it for four years, and I think it's made a huge impact on my quality of life. I take two 200mg pills a day, and I use the generic. I have an alarm set on my cell phone that rings at 8:30 p.m. so I'll remember to take the medicine if I haven't already.

It wreaks havoc with my stomach -- I have issues anyhow -- so I take it with my largest meal of the day which is supper. And I take it with a bite of food to make sure it goes all the way down without getting stuck in my (dry) esophagus. I remember that the name brand of Plaquenil has a coating that makes it easier to go down, but the generic is dry like an aspirin.

The only side effect, besides stomach pain if I take it without food, is that I think the Plaquenil is what causes my ears to ring so much.

I hope you have the same great result as I've had.

I also am suppose to take 200 in morning, and that again at night. I have been on it for several years now, but don't take my whole slip dose due to how it hurts my stomach with my gerd.

I am thinking of trying to take the whole daily dose with my biggest meal and see if that helps.

200 in the morning with breakfast and 200 at night with some food.  Zero side effects.  I started feeling it's effects at five weeks and now at five months, I feel even better.  Not a miracle drug but it has given me my life back.  Hope you have positive results as well!

I used to take a split dose for years, but my doctor lowered the dosage because I was turning blue. I now take a smaller dosage in the evening. I don't know why it turns you blue.
