Glandular pain?

Sitting here unable to sleep (again), so I thought I would ask you all:  how often do the glands under your jawline swell or hurt?  Mine is daily for both.  I'm overweight, so the swelling isn't as obvious to most people, but the pain is intense and even feels like my tongue as a muscle is sore.  Please tell me it gets better?  I've basically been in a flare all year.  Only working about 50% of the time, and losing hope quickly.  Recent Medrol pack has the joint pain under control but this pain is unaffected!  Plus I have another upper respiratory infection.  Can I just sleep until 2015?

If you wish to reduce your gland pain, wear your polar fleece mumps scarf to bed each night.

You can also play the mp3 tonations for mumps found on www.chakraforce.com. You play each tone in sequence for 3 to 5 minutes twice per day.

Your md may Rx antibiotics for you. Then again they may not. It depends on if tey can culture any thing like CMV or Strep.

Good luck.

Mine hurt whenever I eat tart or sour foods, with occasional pain anytime.

Mine are really hurting too Shea, if I had tonsils still I would think I was getting tonsillitis again. It is the same feeling of an infection brewing but it hasn't shown itself yet. In my case it may be a recurrence of a nasopalatine cyst that was surgically removed a year or so ago as I also have sinus pressure.

Are your teeth hurting? Could it be an oral infection travelling down to your chest?

Are you dairy free?

Sorry about all the questions, I got loads of respiratory tract infections before cutting out dairy. I am a newbie here so I apologise if you have gone over all this before.

Hope you feel better soon. x

My salivary glands under my jawline seem to be swollen and sore most of the time. My parotid glands which are next to the ears on the side of the face seem to swell and ache when I am in a bad flare which usually occurs after a stressful situation.

I hate to have my picture taken, because I am relatively thin and I always look as if I have chipmunk cheeks. I take Tylenol for pain, but only when it becomes so unbearable that I can't for instance sleep like you mentioned. I am very careful not to overtax my liver, as I am already on so many other medications.

I hate to say that you will grow accustomed to the pain, but when it happens on a daily basis for several years I have found that I have built up somewhat of a tolerance because I am so used to it.

Wishing you and everybody else on the forum some relief.

There is a salivary gland under the tongue called the sublingual gland and this will swell and not drain vary well. I have been dealing with this for 14 years. I get the pain like a knife and the pain that comes when I swallow and it feels like there is a lump in my throat. The best thing I have found is to place a couple of finger in the gfloor of my mouth and massage gently on the outside with my fingers on my other hand. Sort of like Fingers gently against fingers with the tissue in between.

I do this after warm packs to the area and at the end of the day after I have had a lot of fluids to drink. I also drink fluid with carbonation, diet pop, diet snaffle, carb water, etc to help fizz the mucus in that area. Then there are the infections that happen plenty often. Irrigating the nasal cavity with boiled distilled water with salt and soda added also help to cleanse the nasal area plus you can gargle in the back of the throat to help loose up the junk.

For many years I had quite bad pain in the floor of my mouth and it was not fun. Just miserable all the time. It hurt right into the bottom 4-6 front teeth. I finally had those teeth pulled. It took a couple of years but that pain became much less. I have not clue what it was, maybe low grade infection, maybe neuropathy from the pressure of the tooth roots.

Also the submandibular glands will cause issues also with referred pain. Do a search on salivary gland images and you will see where these glands are at and where they empty. It may be that you will need to see a specialist who can dilate the ducts and empty out the glands. I ended up having my right submandibular gland removed because it got infected to much and was making a lot of stones. It is pretty much constant. Ice cream and sucking on ice have been my salvation all these years. It helps with the pain. There is also a mouthwash called magic mouthwash that ENTs will order. Has different products in it depending on the script and can help the pain---topic pain control with lidocaine, etc.

Believe it or not, sometimes it is the smallest thing that helps and then when it is not really bad it becomes your new normal.. There is also a lot of lymphoid tissue in the back of the throat that can have swelling that wanes and ebbs and cause issues. I deal with this a whole bunch.Hasn't killed me yet, but drives me a little crazy at times. Good luck. Irish

Yes, I get gland pain and swelling frequently. On a daily basis I get random sharp bolts of pain in my parotids or under my jawline, usually on the right side, and one of my parotids along with those glands on the right side are always a little swollen. When things get worse I go through periods of more pronounced swelling and prolonged pain. The worst is when my parotids swell to where it hurts to even open my mouth. I've been going through that since this past weekend. The whole lower half of my face is just pain at times. I thought it was starting to let up but it looks like it's coming back :(
