What is Imuran? And why should I take it?

My rheumy says I shouldn't be having flares so often --- about once a month --- and has given me one more round of Medrol before my September appointment. He says we might want to try Imuran, and gave me an information sheet about it.

Does anyone take this medicine? What is it? How do you react to it? Can you take it along with Plaquenil?

I did a search of the forum, but couldn't really find anything specific.

I took Imuran for about 3 years until last October because I had lots of flares and break through pain.   I took it along with the plaquenil and did not have any side effects from it.   I did have to have blood tests every 4 to 8 weeks while on it.  I really felt well while I was taking it and was sorry to have to go off because I started to have elevated liver enzymes.  I  am now on Cellcept.   

I felt it really helped with all of my symptoms including fatigue.
