Steroid eye drops-respond or not respond

Anyone have success with steroid eye drops?

I just had 3 weeks of treatment, and the doc says my dry spots have improved.
But, my pressure has increased slightly, so i am on watch...

I am wondering, does an improvement with steroid eye drops, prove that there is an autoimmune process, causing the eye dryness?

Are there certain conditions that won't respond to steroid eye drops?

That is what the doc said, but I am wondering if anyone knows more about steroid response or lack thereof in general, for discussion sake...

hi Anabanana,

It is my understanding, that steroid eye drops (or steroids in general) help inflammation whatever the cause.  Seems improvement from your use of them would indicate the existence of inflammation, which very well could be auto-immune related.

I think steroid eye drops are basically for short term use.  I have used Lotemax twice (two out of past three Spring seasons) and was only allowed one refill each time and I was bummed because it really brought relief to me at a time when my eyes were a painful mess.

(I use Restasis and OTC drops for my dry eyes and that has helped me though it unfortunately doesn't work for everyone.)

Take good care,

Dee

steriod eye drops can actually dry out the eye...they again as mentioned, not supposed to be for long term use. We are kinda stuck if you ask me. I would also try to avoid allergy eye drops as well...all, so drying.

When I had my severe attack in 11, the dr (eye specialist) prescribed Dexamethazone eye drops (steroid) to be used for a month. And restasis. It was the first Sjogren's

treatment I had had, since the attack came out of the mostly normal blue for me, and I was prescribed them 2 weeks after the attack. My eyes are now, with restasis

and Salagen, "almost" normal.  My eyes were better within days of using the steroid.

So for me, it stopped the attack on my eyes.  Haven't had need for them since.

My mouth was and is a different story. I didn't get intervention and sustained permanent damage to my glands in that attack.

Hope you get it figured out.
