I need to tint my car windows. Is there a special type that you recommend? My husband put darker tint but is not helping. I burn even with 70 degress. I live in Texas, summers are HOT and I need to get ready.

In my state they have a law about how dark you can tint a window. Are you planning on having your husband do it? Perhaps if you went "shopping" for prices at places that do professional tinting you can ask what kind of tinting would work for you.
Make sure you use a good SPF even if riding in the car. Call me crazy but I have started to wear a long sleeve shirt to give me extra protection even when it's on the warm side. I can always shed the shirt once inside.

I am extremely photosensitive; I had sunscreen on a recent two hour drive and still ended up with BLISTERS on my face  >:( I need to see about SPF tinting as well - I sure hope they make something like that, because sunscreen alone doesn't protect me well enough.

I would THINK that professional tinting would be better than DIY...? I have mine "illegally" dark, but I have a permit sticker on the back window provided by our state troopers. I had a prescription for the window tinting. My DR made it for 15% transmission of light.

I am from Texas and my eyes got burned 2 yrs ago while traveling back. So I got my windows darkened and it has helped. I still have to be careful.

PS.. We had ours done at  place that tints windows. It cost about $200??

There are clear window films that will filter UVA  rays.

You can scroll down for sun survival tips.

The need for sun protection indoors was reinforced in a recent report published in Clinical Interventions in Aging. Eight women and two men had significantly more wrinkles, brown spots, and sagging skin on one side of the face, even though they worked indoors. The side of the subjects' faces that was regularly closer to a window exhibited more signs of sun damage ("asymmetrical facial damage"), and UVA rays are believed to be the culprit. While both UVA and UVB rays can harm the skin and lead to skin cancers, UVB is effectively blocked by glass. However, at least 50 percent of UVA radiation can pass through windows. (Car windows have been proven to let in more than 60 percent.) This is important news for people who habitually sit near a window - whether at work, at home, or during a long commute by car, train, or bus. http://www.skincancer.org/prevention/uva-and-uvb/uva-radiation-a-danger-outdoors-and-indoors

* Get a letter for the film from your Dr. so you can deduct for medical expense since you are in the South.

I could kick myself. We were only just recently discussing this topic and sensitivity while driving.
For the first time this season we had really warm weather here in NJ. I just got off from work and decided to go for a haircut with my favorite stylist who is 5 miles away. I wore my sunglasses and completely forgot to wear sunblock. Who can think that clearly at 6 am?? On the drive there I could feel my face burning from the sun coming in and then again on the way home. I didn't have this problem pre-Plaquenil. My only issue was that my eyes were sun sensitive.
I am going to have to find a way to remember to keep SPF in my bag. I saw a news bit on tv the other night about how to remember things. They said that if you clench your right hand while trying to memorize something it helps you remember. Now if I could only remember to do that......

I always carry sunscreen. And hearing aid batteries. And Chapstick! Lots and lots and lots of Chapstick. When I wore contact lenses, I carried solution and a pair of backup lenses, and a mirror. And dental floss. And nail clippers, and a handkerchief which doubles as an emergency hearing aid case. And three day's worth of essential meds (now for both of us). And....

Yes, my purse is heavy. But I always have what I need in case I get stranded.

I also carry some lightweight cotton gloves so my hands don't get toasted.

Thank you for your responses. I will search all my alternatives. I need to do something very soon.
