Sinuses!!

Hi all! Just wondering does anyone with sjogrens havenproblems with there sinus's like blocked noses, dry noses stuffy, and sinus headaches??!

Yes, Yes, Yes...oh, the allergies...the dryness...the eyes have no fluid....welcome spring!!!!!

Wish I had some suggestions...maybe some alternative meds from health food store way to go.

Oh my gosh - yes - so often...sinus infections since I was 21 - at least four a year...I have tried Flonase, had to have antibiotics several times, use saline spray, some folks use a netti pot and some even resort to sinus surgery.  I have opted not to have sinus surgery but rather treat the infections when they come and try, try, try to keep the sinuses moist with saline spray and you can also get a pot of hot water (off the stove of course!) and place your face over it with a towel over the pot and your face to get the steam into your sinuses.

I also use Zicam spray - the eucalyptus one for severe sinus congestion and when I am really desperate I use mucinex sinus.

I have horrible sinus issues. Allergies and asthma since approx.12 yrs old. I now have chronic sinusitis and I have had a few sinus surgeries for nasal polyps.

I use Zyrtec, Nasonex, Singulair and saline rinse for my sinuses and lung issues.

Its almost like all of these sinus/ breathing problems were like a percursor for my Sjogren's.
I really don't remember what it was like not to sneeze, wheeze etc.

Whenever I feel down, I remind myself that "it could be worse" and "i'm not alone."

Oh yes.....I've had sinus issues since 2006 when I first started having symptoms of AI disease. I used everything Flonase, prednisone, Avalox, Zicam, Afrin, you name it. I ended up having sinus surgery in 2009. My sinuses were completely blocked, had some weird fungus in my nose, and I had 5 polyps. My sinuses are starting to bother me again because my nasal passages are so dry. I get up every morning feeling like I'm catching a cold.

Yup, sinus issues here too. My original ENT subscribed Nasonex and I was on it daily for two years. We moved and my new ENT about had a fit that I'd been on that RX for so long. He took me off and has me now taking GeloNasal -- an over-the-counter, all-natural spray with sesame oil. It seems to be doing a good job for daily use. But not sure it will work for a big flare. Time will tell.

Yep!  Swollen sinuses here too!  And it happens all of a sudden for no apparent reason! I have been doing a lot of research on coconut oil, virgin that is, and have found that it is great for just about everything!  you can rub just a small amount on the inside of your nose if it is dry and it gives you some relief from the dry nose!  And it smells good, too! (if you like coconuts) But, there is so much it is good for, you might want to look into it....couldn't hurt.

Yes dry crusty stuffy nose and sinuses, my disease must have decided to progress a little. I am a bit drier everywhere for the last month.

Yes, had allergies when I was young. Moved around a lot, state to state, and seemed to lose them. Since I've been back in my home state for many years they have gotten much worse and I learned I am allergic to outdoor mold.

I tried Flutacosone, but the steriod bothered me a lot. Am trying Singular, but just one dose dried me out so much and had other side effects that I've not been willing to take another.I pan to try cutting the dose.

I use a humdifier, nose spray though not too much since I think the preservatives bother it and my lungs. Eyes are oddly drier during allergy season (I think it's the opposite for "normal" people) so I use more eye drops.

I also bought a salt inhaler from a wholistic practictioner, it's filled with Hymalayan salt, but haven't tried it yet. We have a salt cave nearby that I also want to try as they are supposed to help.

They're making winter a nightmare. Sometimes makes me want to drill a hole in my face and get it all out.

After I have started using lots of saline spray, oils in the nose and humidifiers to keep them moist it has gotten a lot better.
