How To Have Fun At The Grocery Store

Here in NC, we are having a severe flu outbreak. My dad has just finished radiation and chemo and my mom has COPD, emphysema and possibly asthma.  So, I am the only one who can go to the grocery store and face the crowds.  But I don't want to catch anything and bring it home.

So, yesterday, I put on a mask and headed out.  It was hilarious!  People were trying not to look but I peeked and caught them!  Then they got out of my way as fast as possible.  They all thought I had the flu!  I may try this every week!  It's like the sea of carts parted in every aisle!  I got done really quick.

The funniest episode was in the check-out line.  A lady and her son were right behind me.  I heard her say to him, "don't get close to her!"  LOL!

And the check-out gal was so flustered, she kept dropping my groceries.

Once outside, I found that I had forgotten the Chocolate / Vanilla Ice Cream, so back in I went.  Got back in line and a lady kindly pointed out to me that I didn't have to wait, that I could go to the self-check out aisle.  Trying to get rid of me are you?  Of course I didn't say that, and headed on over to fumble around and figure out how to work the machine.

Sometimes, it pays to have a sense of humor!

That's very funny.  It reminds me of when I fell and gave myself two black eyes.  I looked jacked up but still had to do stuff like grocery shopping.  People would look at me but would look away as soon as they saw me looking back.  I think they thought I was a battered woman and didn't know how to react.  It is fun to watch peoples reactions.  I might have to try the mask one day.

That is funny. And I love how you can find the humor and the positive in it.

Sleepy In Seattle

We lived in Japan for a while, and people use surgical masks there all the time - it never gets a second glance. If you think you might have a cold or flu, you just wear one. Some people even wear gloves. It's only polite - and it seriously cuts down on the spread of disease in incredibly-crowded places like Tokyo, where - if people DIDN'T observe good public hygiene, viruses would spread like wildfire. Also, of course, in Japan, when people meet, they politely bow instead of shaking hands - no physical contact, so no spread of germs.

I wish our culture would adopt some of those practices - we'd all be healthier!

That's so funny! I think I'm definitely going to have to try this when I go shopping sometime, I am always trying to have fun shopping, especially on the realty painful days. My favorite thing to do when I'm without the kids but a friend or family member is to act like the kids do sometimes:-) I scream & yell I want it I want it can I have it please please please! LMAO the looks people give me!
