It's been a hellish couple of weeks lots of changes. Nerve damage, uncontrollable blood sugars, dry cough and mouth getting worse and burning, eyes are pretty bad also. So the things I didnt know..I didnt know evoxac can cause hyperglycemia. Its a rare adverse event but apparently im one of the lucky ones, which is why my blood sugars have been 150 220 etc. Doctor submitted an adverse event report to the FDA. Things I didnt know, cyclosporine is toxic to the part of the pancreas called the isle of langerhaus where beta cells live. It seems Its quite possible that the two of these together even though normally people handle them well..im my case with pre existing problems may have just pushed me into full blown diabetes.

Well I know I am sick I shake and tremor all the time now, feel terrible muscle weakness, but dont know from what illness is causing it. I have two appointments tomorrow and please dear god let them find the cause, and hopefully do something to make it better.  I cant even comprehend how or what life is going to be like with out evoxac and having to jab insulin all the time. I am far too scatterbrained to be that responsible, and the thought of no evoxac and total dryness is miserable. If there one thing I hope its that maybe I can take a lower dose of evoxac, at 2 a day sugars were not that high 120s 130s, at 3 a day they climbed over 200.

I am really sorry that you are having such a terrible time of it. I am curious if you have seen an endocrinologist to deal with the pancreas and liver issues. Sjogrens itself can cause problems with the pancreas and liver so it might be more involved than an untoward drug reaction.

I don't know you that well, but I am wondering if you are having severe anxiety. Anxiety goes along with sjogrens and can be just devastating. I suffered terribly many years ago before the newer antidepressants came out. I felt like the world was going to fly out of control at times and couldn't sleep, etc. It was heck trying towork and manage a family of growing boys and hubby.

It really sounds like you have many systems affected by the sjogrens. HOpefully the doc will get you started on a drug like imuran, cellcept, methorexate and maybe even some prednisone to try and tame the autoimmune attack on the body. Do not be surprised if they do a lot of testing first cause they sure want to know what they are dealing with. Good luck and keep us posted on how things are going. IRish

Tivia:

Clearing up the blood sugar problems could help with the dryness - diabetes causes dry mouth too.  I wonder if you could safely take Pilocarpine (Salagen) instead of Evoxac.

Also, beware that many anti-depressants cause dry mouth as well.

I'm so sorry you are going through this - you are in my prayers.

So RESTASIS can cause damage to the pancreas?? Wow.

I don't take it, but I'm having pancreas problems myself.

Ok I want to clear this up dont panic. Restasis is cyclosporine, cyclosporine is damaging. Normally the small amount you get in restasis is going t be negligible systemically. I just happen to have a very fragile pancreas with a lot of problems. Any extra load can cause an issue for me, which is why the evoxac raises my glucose. Because my pancreas is already fighting for survival. You will be fine, the amount that enters the body is barley traceable.

Oh Irish I saw the doctor yesterday, and told her about the mental struggle she said...sjogrens does not cause depression anxiety or mental changes... Well I tried to argue with her on that, but just gave up and said ok. Have to understand I didnt have any brain or mental problems until last spring. So I know its not something that has always been there, this popped up when I became sick. It was actually my first symptom.

Well anyway she put me on lyrica for nerve damage, and now wants to do a kidney biopsy because im leaking protein, and she thinks its from sjs..im not sure it is.

Joe, I also work with an endo, saw him yesterday too. He said my thyroid is starting to swing the other direction to hypo from hyper. And yes the blood sugars are unstable he said because some of the meds, and turning into full diabetes.
