Sleepy In Seattle

Thought this might be encouraging to some of you...

I lost a lot of hair starting back in April when I lost hearing in one ear (very stressful), was on high-dose Pred (60mg/day) for a couple of months, and then started 25mg/week of Mtx.

Well, it looks like my body has sort of adjusted to everything, and a lot of the hair is growing back now. It looks a little weird, because 2/3 of my hair is shoulder-length and 1/3 of it is only about an inch long - but it's coming back!!!! Taking biotin helps, and both my Rheum and my hairdresser said they have seen this happen before with medications and/or stress. You lose a ton of hair to begin with, and then your body adjusts and you start to grow hair again.

I don't know that it will happen for everybody, but I know a lot of us kind of panic when we see all our hair running down the shower drain.  :-[ I just wanted to let you all know that sometimes it comes back....  ;D

I don't know if it will ever be the same thick, lusterous stuff it was before I got sick - it does still seem finer and dryer than it used to be - but at least I don't have bald patches anymore!  ::) :P

That's great! I'm glad you are getting so much regrowth!!

My hair loss just keeps getting worse, but I'm ok with it; I feel better on the Imuran and that's more important to me than my hair! (I also have some really cute wigs  ;D )

Sleepy, that is terrific news!  I am so happy for you.

Regarding methotrexate, as we have previously discussed, I had a rheumy appointment today, during which he discontinued my methotrexate therapy.  I told him that my symptoms are creeping up on me as I am tapering down on prednisone.   That, coupled with the fact that I have been experiencing hair loss, caused him to switch me to Arava.  He told me he didn't want to raise my MXT dose due to my hair loss.  :(. I hate starting all over again trying a new drug.
