I've had oral herpes for most of my life and yesterday woke up to a blister on my lip and the words oh crap falling from my lips.  :P  As usual I started my anti-viral medication I keep on hand for these unwelcome attacks.  The meds help to knock out the infection but I have to take them several time a day for 3-5 days.   Luckily I had a dental appt that day and my dentist said he could treat the lesion with laser.  I had never heard of this treatment.  My dentist said the laser helps kill off the virus and heal the lesion.  He also said that many times you won't get another blister again in that same location.  Since the virus is on several locations on my lips he said I probably will need other treatments but each time it will help to stop attacks.   The sooner you treat an attack the better the outcome.

I didn't know about laser treatment for cold sores, thanks!  Wonder if insurance pays for this?

That's interesting! I get cold sores too - it would be great if there were a way to keep them from coming back! Does the laser cause any scarring where the blister was?
